Hey guys, Just a quick question about the OMP...After reading some threads about the OMP I got curious and decided to take a look at mine to see if it was working properly. I looked at the two clear lines with the car off and there was nothing in them, then I started the car and after it had been idling for a bit I noticed the lines starting to fill up. I was wondering is this normal? Should they be full all the time? Since the previous owner let it sit for a while the oil is most likely old could this be the reason for the slow filling time?

not sure about the no oil at first but i know that the more rpm you have the more oil its going to push up. in the haynes manual it has a test you do in to a cup to measure the amount over a peroid of time at a certian rpm. and if its not enough you adjust it accordingly. well if you have a haynes id check that out if not let us know and im sure i could post the test in here. ps if it sat a while CHANGE THE OIL it cant hurt and if your not sure at first if its getting enough maybe premix for a while till you get it worked out a liittle to much oil is better then a little to little. just let me know if you need the instructions for the test. robert
thanks for the info...I don't have the Haynes so the test instructions would be great...I agree about premixing I think I am going to. On that note do you know the ratio by chance?

depending on what you use, i use a rotary premix which only requires 1/2 ounce per galloon. others use different stuff (there is a post on premixs) but you would need to go 1 ounce per galloon on those things i would guess. i will get my haynes manual and post the test in a little while
1oz per gallon seems a bit too much.
I remember something along the lines of 1/100th oil in comparison to gas. Like I said I'm going off memory so you'd want to search or wait for someone who knows exactly.
Plus stay up on your fuel filter... it'll need replacement sooner with premix.

Oil metering pup, measuring discharge
1. the metering oil pump injects a small amount of engine oil directly into the carb to lubircate the seals
2. check the metering oil pump and oil hoses leading to the carb for leaks
3. make sure that the clearance between the metering oil pump level and the washer is 0 to .04 inch (0 to 1.0 mm)
4. connect a tachomter to the engine or use the dashboard tach
5. warm up the engine to normal operating temperature
6.dissconnect the two metering oil hoses at the carb. these are located on the left side of the carb
7. at this time fill a small squirt can with clean engine oil to inject directly into the carb's primary barrels. this mean the air cleaner assembly should be removed and the idle compensator hose plugged for proper engine operations.
8. place a graduated beaker or measuring cup under the disconnected oil metering hoses to check the discharge
9. start the engin and set the engine speed to 2000rpm
10. run the engine for 6 minutes and check the amount of oil discharged into the graduated container. do not forget that engine oil must be squirted into the carb's primarys.
11. after running for 6 mins the oil discharge in the container should be 2.0 to 2.5 cc. if not correct adjust the metering oil pump.
metering pump adjusting
1. adjustments made to the metering oil pump are made at the oil pump linkage located at the front of the engine.
2. loosen the lock nut of the adjusting screw
3.turn the adjusting screw untill the proper oil discharge is obtained.
4.when the adjusting screw is screwed in teh amount of discharge increases and while the discharge is decreased when the screw is turned out. the oil discharge alters by appx. .2 to .3 cc per 6 mins of engine operation at 2000rpm
5. tighten the adjusting lock nut securly
6. after adjustments aare complete check the clearance between the pump lever and washer and it should be 0.0 to .04 in if neccessary adjust with a suitable washer
