Is it okay for me to be horribly in love with my rex? :)

I know that I have it bad - once a week or so I go out and just sit in the 85 GS (rusty parts car w/ mint interior) and just FEEL the 1st gen around me.

The odd part is that I've always liked the surrounding feel of the 1st gen. It holds you close, yet wants to run. I felt nearly the same closeness and purposefulness in a 3rd gen I sat in for 2 min once. It's a warm feeling that's greatly amplified into love by actually driving, which I haven't felt in a 1st gen for far too long.
But I don't get that feel from my FC. I don't think I'll miss that particular Rx-7.

I cannot WAIT to feel what vibes the Rx-8 gives me!!!! But the Original Classic Grin Generating 1st Generation Rx-7 is tough to match...

I drove Pamela across snowy mountains and plains for 3 days to get her home, starting the day I bought her. Lost traction on black ice on Day 1, but still limped her home (The rad mount was slightly bent, but all other damage was ahead of the front wheels - it didn't even mess up the alignment!)

While I don't recommend people crack up their ReXes, I do see it as a 'bonding' moment. Other cars might have left me stranded on that highway as they bled coolant or engine oil until struck by a logging truck.

A sad story, my first rx was a black '84 gsl-se: I got a leed on the car from an old teacher that raced first gens, it was at his buddies shop (that also raced first gens and had no less than 30 first gens behind his shop). The only thing that was wrong with the car besides whats wrong with most 7's was it looked like someone droped something across the passenger side light cover and hood. I took it for a drive and it was all over, I had to have it. I gathered the money he wanted for the car (all of my money) and took it home a week later. After eating ALOT of rice (CHEAP FOOD) and giving it a good tune up I feel more in love. One thing of note, because I was poor I used autolight spark plugs, that lasted about a week so I spent more food money to get the NGK's, worth the meals of rice. Fast foward to the end off the GSL-SE: I was on my way to work from my girlfriends house, I took a curve at my average speed for this curve, BUT there was sand all over the road from where a big rig pulled out of his parking spot on the coner. My tall whipped around, I corected but just slid sideways, and when it's all over I roll into a ditch. Bent the bumper suports a little, bent the drivers control arm(there was a log in the ditch, A FU@#ING LOG!!!!) So befor I got everything back right on the car I had to sell it because I was going off the Basic Training, I wanted to keep it even still but had nowhere to put a "junk" car as they called it.

Befor I made love to the ditch with the GSL-SE I had alread bought a '85 GS with "an engine that wouldn't start." It was just sitting in junk cars area of a used car lot, a great body, just a dent in the drivers side door where I think the dumb *** that had kicked the door when he couldn't get it to start. The car sat in my yard for 'bout two weeks befor I had time to see what was wrong with it. The transmission fluid trick, it worked of course, but the secondaries didn't work. It didnt' run past 3000rpm. PLEASE SIT DOWN AND RELAX BEFOR YOU READ THE FOLLOWING: A long story short I put a Chevy V8 and 5speed in the 7. I already had the plan befor I messed up my SE so I had to follow threw. I love my V8 7 and I love rotory also. Don't hate me because of what I did to my 7.

Almost forgot what this thread was about. Anyway, once you fall in love with the 7 there's no turning back. I want another one, an SA with a '85 GSL suspension, an SE 13B with carbs, and 15" panasports, BUT because I now live in military dorms and already have two cars to love,my V8 7 and a Suby legacy, I can't really justify getting the SA. I'm still colecting parts for a suspension upgrade for my GS, full gsl-se conversion tokico adj all around, ST sway bars and springs and new bushings.

There is no way to love your 7 to much,

I own two, and I keep getting asked to sell my '83 GSL. I really can't get rid of it even with it sitting right now without an engine in it. My '84 GSL even with its bad points, I'd have a really tough time letting it go as well considering I am in the prep stages of a streetported 12a setup. (rebuilding engine with streetport, have a bigger carb, etc. etc.)

I just want that one done so I can start worrying about the '83..... mmm 13b TII engine and tranny...... That will be my baby.....

Let me try to put it into these terms ...

Being on this forum and reading all the good stuff is like watching a **** movie. Just like you have to jerk off by the end of the movie ... you gotta drive your car after that too.

In a very perverted way of saying it :P

Yea, I love getting her wet too. She really gets slippery but that's the best way to ride in her..............

I love mine and since it is the first car I have actually bought and paid for myself and the first one that the title is in my name I plan on keeping it for as long as possible. With the right upkeep, tuning, and care it should be around for a very very long time... the rest of my life if possible.

i'm in love!!!

i could never get rid of it, it's part of the family now. All the effort put into the body work, and sanding, and sanding, and sanding, it's done. I just got done washing it, and damn, it's a bonding experience.
