OK tach / voltmeter question
I looked and everyone's threads were about how to test the tach not actually wire the thing up... so here goes.
Since I am using the electronic ignition disty and I had to hard-wire it in because my stock ignition switch was bad so I am using an el-cheapo aftermarket ignition switch, my tach isn't working nor my volt meter. Basically I re-wired the engine, but used the original wire that went from the alt to god-knows-where in the harness, and I KNOW my tach is disconnected.
I am not as concerned about the voltage gauge, as I am going to run an aftermarket one anyway. I am concerned that my alt may not be charging, however, since I am not getting a reading on the gauge. However I read that the '80 used a regulator seperate from the alt, so if I want to hard-wire the alt to the battery I need to add a regulator, correct?
I would like to get my stock tach back working first and foremost, so I just hard wire it to the coil (-) and it will work, correct?
Ahhh can't wait to re-wire the whole car this winter... my own harness, mini-plug fuse box, and nice color coded wires. I'm sure Mazda saved a few bucks by only using 3 colors of wire
