Ok, so I removed my rats nest and......

Well, it idles but not as smoothly as it did.
An RPM graph would show a small wave peaking about twice per second.
Not a huge deal but is this to be expected with rats nest removed?
And is there anyway to fix it?
It also doesn't idle till it gets up to full temp where as before when
my temp needle started to move it was warm enough to idle.
And it's ALOT easier to stall it when starting from a stop now too!

The other strange thing, does removing the rats nest change my timing?
Cause when I floor it while it's parked it runs fine up till about 4500 rpm,
then from 4500 to 6500 it sounds like it's choking/missing and progressively
gets worse closer to 6500. And it didn't do that before.

Took it for a test drive and it's still got power but it doesn't have the top end
power that it did before rats nest removal.

Anyhow, the guide doesn't say crap about adjusting anything after removing
the nest but it had to have changed something that now needs readjusting.
It wouldn't idle at all on first start, just would die but a simple idle adjust fixed it.

The vac advance line is hooked up per the guide to the 2nd from the left and
T'd to both vac advance units.
Read the guide again and I have done and hooked up everything per the guide.
I didn't T the cruise line to the A/C solenoid, just ran it straight to the cruise unit.

With all the emissions crap removed, what do I disconnect to adjust timing.
Is it the same procedure as before?

Regards,
Orb

You may need to adjust the idle mixture. If it had been richened to compensate for vacuum leaks in the rats nest, it will be too rich now that they have been cured.
As for adjusting the timing, just be sure to unhook the vac hoses to the dizzy before setting it, and remember to hook them back up.

Start checking for vacuum leaks. I use a length of garden hose, holding one end to my ear and using the other end to listen just like a stethoscope. Works great.

Would a vacuum leak cause this...
Rev up to 2k rpm, then floor it while parked and it starts choking/missing at 4k through 6k.
Rev up to 4k rpm, then floor it and it doen't choke through 6k.
And it dies real easy if I don't keep it at 2k when starting out in 1st gear.

Yes it can. Improper mechanical secondaries can also cause this.

I know this is a year old post but just to note. Also make sure you shutter valve is not closed. If it's sucking air thru the big tube you need to wire it open.
