hey all, I won

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...e=STRK:MEWN:IT

that earlier today for my 84 gsl-se. I thought I rememberd somebody else doing a writeup on how to make a good heat shield for a cone filter intake. I did a search and couldn't find a link. Anybody have any links for a good writeup on how to install both the filter and heat shield? Thanks!

I'm sorry to say you won't see any difference. The afm is the restriction, not the factory airbox. Been there done that.

Bolt it up, yeah. But then find a way to support the afm since it was supported by the airbox. If your hoping for the hot sound of a honda cai you won't find it with this, you'll need a weber.

I bought the same adaptor a spectre one from auto zone. I used a K&N filter tho. I attached a pic of the install, you do have to support the AFM. I just used a bolt and useda stock hanger, you can see it right under the little orange thing by my strut bar. You will also need a filter for your air pump, another spectre cheapo since it does not really matter.

ok, 84stock... i'm not looking for any real increase, I just thought it would be fun.

d0 luck, thanks for being so helpful... *sarcasm*

turboFB, no, it was not my first e-bay win, and as a matter of fact, i was going to get just the adaptor and then a k&n filter, but my money is low, so i figured that $20 shipped for a filter and an adaptor really isn't bad. and no, it is not like legos, there is no plastic in involved. it is similar to other toys, like constructor sets, but not legos. so if you are going to attempt to be a comedian, at least use a proper insult, thanks

john64, i like that pic, but you don't have a heat shield? As far as the filter for the air pump, where did you get it? autozone? (right now I don't even use my air pump though, it's just pumping into nothing b/c i have a removed cat, so i don't need to worry about it now, but i will be getting a new exhaust system that will allow me to properly use the 5th and 6th port actuators, not just have them wired open)

I had really posted this intending to get help on how to fabricate a heat shield (like, where to mount it) also, I know some of you guys use pipe to redirect more air into the intake. anybody have pix of how they did this?

longduck, i seem to remember you having a similar setup, if you see this, think you could add some input?

thanks guys

But it IS like legos....just snap the filter right onto it. Why make things so complicated, young one?

i'm really not trying to beat anybody, I just basically want it to look cool, and be somewhat functional as i know cool air is much better than the rediculously hot engine air. ::puts on flame suit::

heh, well, a lot of us college folks here don't really have the money to do any ::real:: modification, but in a few years, I'll have my 3rd gen, and I won't rest till i'm putting out 400hp

1.5 years left till I'm done with college, then i'll have my b.s. in computer science and business with a specialization in marketing and business information systems

i will hopefully make enough money then to do REAL mods. Till then, I'm going to stick to some "visual mods" and modding my x-box
