Ok, I got a good one for ya

Have any of you seen the Cyberdyne digital gauges? I was thinking that I wanna redo my entire dash with these hot little numbers. They are black with digital readout and they turn compleatly black when you shut them off :bigthimb:. They are so cool (fairly cheap too). Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have replaced your stock dash gauges with new ones. If so, how hard was it. Also, does anyone know the sizes of the stock gauges on an 85 GSL (fuel, oil PSI, temp, speedo, tach, etc.)? Or, if you think it would be too hard to replace existing, should I just go to the bone yard and get another cluster and just build a custom plate and mount them all in there behind the stock "glass"? I kinda like the last idea cause I would use black plastic, that way, when no lights are on and the cars off, you will just see black until you turn it on, then they would look like numbers just floating in the dark . Nifty eh? Ok, well all comment are welcome! Thanks.

~T.J.

PS - Im trying to get a pic...I hope it works.

Or should I just go for white face gauges? That was my other part i forgot to ask. I just think the "High-Tech" look would be cool as ice in this car...especially if i put that air fuel gauge in the spot where the stock balance/fader is. It does the same thing as the other gauges, it turns solid black when its off . I just think it would be cool to get into a car in the dark, start it up and suddenly be surrounded by digital readouts . Ahh, the Knight Rider memories

I personally don't like digital when it comes to oil-pressure, speed, tach, etc. Numbers seem harder to understand in a analog world. I know, that seems like a strange statement, but positions of the indicator needles is easyer to read in sitiuations numbers become a blur. I driven a '94 Caprise with digital speedo and it doesn't feel right.

If I got digital guages, I would like the needle on the gauge too I think.

that black out thing sounds awesome. I think that the digital tach would be hard to read theough. Especially with how quick a rotary can rev. But the effect of having the guages appear and just 'float' there is pure genious.

Hey thanks!!

Yeah, I was thinking that the tach (if it really is just numbers) might be akward to use. Have any of you seen the S2000 tach? Its kinda like a bar graph type thing that curves around the circumference of the gauge. I think that I could deal with that as long as the circumference is clearly marked (IE - 4, 5, 6, etc). I got this idea actually from the S2000 (my friends dad has one), it has all digital and its pretty sweet. Anyway, I was just wondering about your thoughts, thanks.

why not???

Why not use a digital panel??? Look at my attachment. My friend has one in his 72 ford f-250 sport custom show~n~go truck. It looks sweet even though his is red. I want a blue one but can't find one. Maybe put color tape over it to mak it blue??? Oh well. At night they do look like they are floating even when you are Pulling an 8200 rev doin 90 while the atamatic is finally shifting into third fun to race riced~out hondas LATERZ,

I with ya guys on analog being better than digital. I can look at a guage and BAM i know where I stand. Digital ones seem a little more difercult, Guess it would be ok when you got used to it, but I beleive analog will be the way I'll go

Grrr! Al these people making custom gauge clusters and what-not, yet no one answered my question!! What sizes are the stock gauges? I want to "simply" replace the stock units with the after market units. Either that or I'll make a custom backplate and mount my own gauges, but in any case I still need to know what size the stock gauges are...Thanks again

I would do just that, except I cant get too accurate of a reading without taking my dash apart which I really dont wanna do...

Personally, I think Nissan made an EXCELLENT digital design for the Z31 300ZX. Basically the same as the S2000, but 16yrs prior!

It had a graph for the tach, as well as a digital numeric display for the RPM x100 (ie. 9 = 900RPM, 21=2100RPM, 50=5000RPM)....

The tach sweeps from right to left as the RPM climb, and when the throttle is closed, it rests at 1bar in height, but when you start applying pressure, it 'grows' to as much as 5bars at WOT I believe....Pretty cool, and fun to watch when you rev it too! :p

My 300ZX, is an 86, so it's dated... But I still love her! :p Were you think of the new ones, or the old ones? The newer ones are REALLY nice, but expensive. The older ones (like mine), are nothing special, but still fun to drive, and mod with the 3.0L V6 Turbo....

When I was looking for a different car, I seen several 90 and 91 going for cheap, most of them had some interior work or few dings and maybe a paint job, but I seen several for around 6k
