HELP!

i loosened all the control arm bolts in the rear, dropped the car, bounced it til i could bounce it no more, and it's still riding like a tank out back!!!... It didnt make a damn bit of difference.

pics in a few minutes, but WTF! What else can i do. It's racing beat rear springs (installed 3 weeks ago) and tokicko Illuminas.

i'm really angry/depressed because i spent so much money (~1500) on suspension related ****, and Rotorfest2k3 is tomorrow and i just got all the other work done in time (yesterday), and the car looks like crap because it's still riding so high in the back, granted it handles great, but goddamn, why cant it sit right?

ya know what.. i dont know why you're complainin .. cuz i like that. beats the "k-car" look where the back bumper an inch from the ground and you cant see over the hood.. lol

Is it my imagination or did I read that Mazda changed the height of the rear spring mounting points between the S1 and S2

 

The springs that you bought, did they have a section of "dead coil" That is a section of the coil that is very tightly wound so you can cut and it won't affect the lbs/inch.



You notice in the pic, you can cut those in order to get the hight you want.

All that about "bouncing and springs settling" is crap, I spoke with a eibach rep and all that stuff is untrue.

Your ride height will stay like that until you do something about it.

In sport compact car magazine, they had a first gen with the stock rear springs cut and they said it was fine. I belive they cut 2 coils from each spring and it had a half inch gap between the fender and tire.

If you are really pissed about your height just try cutting the spring 1 or 2 coils.

 

Don't cut aftermarket springs unless it has several dead coils... unless you want to replace your dental work every couple months

 

Sounds like spring cut'n time to me. My Eibach's didn't settle and came with a near perfect ride height right out of the box. Have you talked to Racing Beat about it?

nope, the racing beats dont have dead coils... i may just get 175lb/in Eibachs like Chrisman did with the GC front coilovers, and those Eibachs have a lot of dead coils.

just too bad it wont be done in time for tomorrow.

i just think it's funny that my car with a "lowered" rear suspension is higher than all the rx7's i've ever seen with stock rear suspensions.

maybe when i do the disc/lsd rear end swap i'll find something wrong and that'll fix it.

Cut the stock coils down for use in the meantime so you can still roll to Rotorfest

 

Ok, did you do this to BOTH ends of all 4 arms? And did you do the watts link too? ANy of those can hold up the car. You should only tighten these bolts with the weight of the car on the axle. Jack under the pumpkin and jackstands under the frame nearly touching the frame just for saftey.

did u remove the rubber insulator that goes on top of the spring from the factory?. do that.

 

This seems to come up a lot, everyone thinks "lowering" a FB will give it that slammed look, but they forget that 20+ years of sagging and spring fatigue have occured and the car has settled so much that lowering springs raise it from where it was, but it is still lower than it would be new. So basically thats how its gonna be dude. Your still coming tomorow though right?

 

I wish that my car looked that crappy, that is a nice looking ride.

 

Not that I know of... I do know that Series 3 cars have trailing link mounts 20 mm lower to reduce tail happiness... That is ALL 1984-1985 cars...

 

The lowered trailing link mounts were added to reduce roll steer in the rear end that causes the rear to steer away from the center of a turn, thus like MikeLMR said reduce tail happiness. It also decreases anti-squat, so the car sqats more when accelerated. I don't think it does much for ride height though...
