oil pressure pressure problem, need help please

ok im having this problem latelly and i dont know why, first of all i have a gslse with a TII engine is on my signature, is been rebuild with new seals except new bearing because they were at mazda specs. i put it last year on april and is been trouble free until now, i was getting 30 psi on idle and 60-65 after 3k, now all of the suddent im getting 10-15 psi in idle and 40-50 psi at 3k on my VDO oil pressure gauge. i why im getting low pressure all of the sudden? theres no oil leak, never let it past half way on the dip stick, a friend of mine told me to put shims of the oil pressure regulator but i dont see it on the hayes book? were is that located at and is if a good idea? thanks

The only thing that I can think about is that you blew out the o-ring on the front cover. This will cause a drop in oil pressure like you are reporting. Since, this pressure is indicated on an aftermarket gauge we know the drop isn't due to bad stock sender/gauge. Do you still have the stock oil pressure gauge in addition to the VDO? If so, are they reporting the same pressure? You may be able to test the sender on the VDO, but they should be pretty reliable, so that may not be the problem. Mazdatrix has some info on this o-ring stuff:

http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/oring.htm

If this is the prob, you are going to have to pull the front cover in order to fix it. Hope this helps.

thats what i thought at first but i dont know, that o ring and the plastic ring on the front cover is not even a year old thats why i dont think is that. 2nd is that the gauge is mecanical not electrical and i dont have the stock gauge hooked up because the guage is broke

Could your oil be contaminated with gas? Has it flooded bad recently? Maybe you could try changing the oil if this may be a problem to see if it clears it up. I wouldn't try to shim the regulator unless you find and fix the real problem first. Does it behave this way under different conditions (engine warm or engine cold)? If it turns out the oil is fine, there are no leaks, and the gauge is accurate, I would still have to suspect that o-ring. Hopefully, some others can thow in some ideas as well.

at start up in the morning it goes up to 75- 80 psi around 1500 rpm but after 10 min drops to 10 psi on idle wich is at 1k rpm and it wont pass over 50 psi, most of the time it stay at 45 -48 psi at 3k. i havent flooded my car at all. i havent flooded this engne at all basicly, i change the oil every 2 month wich is not even 1500 miles because i only drive it from work and back. i dont drive alot. i just changed it about 20 days ago and i didnt see anithing wrong on the oil and i check it every morning and i still fresh. i thought it was the filter because i been using a botch filter but i brought a mazda one and still no change. i wish is something else other that o ring on the front cover. is a biatch to replace.
