oil pressure to high and to low

My 12a is running about 90psi @max rpm.
when running at 3000rpm the psi is at 55 or so. when at idle its steady at 20psi.
this is being read at operating temp and with a auto gauge not the dash.
the engine has only 11000 miles and the oil has been the same with havoline 10w-40.
Would like to know if the return regulator could be the problem or if anything else could be causing this.

Doesn't sound like a problem. Those are similiar readings to what I get with my Autometer on a fresh rebuild. In fact, it will hit 125 on cold starts. I do have the 85 psi opr and shimmed the relief regulator, but your's sound fine.
