Oil Metering Pump Question

Howdy,
I have a 1984 GSL-SE with a Carbed 6-Port 13B from an S4 and I have a question about the Oil Metering Adjustment.

The OMP arm was tied up about half way between bottom and top using some wire.
My OMP is leaking which I know is no new situation but as the previous owner did I premix with every fillup as I dont quite trust its reliability.

which way does the arm need to go to be as closed as possible versus all the way open, I figure its best just to be burning only as much oil as I need to. I noticed that if you let to go freely it feels springloaded to go down but logically I would think that would make it wide open so if it did break for some reason you'd still be getting oil, I searched around but couldnt find anything and the FSM didnt specify either.

Thanks.

the throttle linkage pulls up on the rod, increasing the amount of oil it pumps. think of it like this, up is open, down is closed.

It needs to be down.

The arm was originally connected with a rod to the throttle linkage, so the more open the throttle is the more oil is dispensed. The throttle pulls the lever up.
