If the leak is minimal, it probably just dams up the tiny path that's letting the oil seep out. Not really anywhere else for it to go.

But that's a guess.
Thanks for all the help. Dave

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but here is an idea to limit the amount of oil on my driveway. I have read about pre-mixing, sounds cool and I will do it, sounds like good insurance. Why not pre-mix and use one of those oil stop-leak products? If the danger of the oil stop leak product is clogged oil metering lines, the pre-mix remedies that. I'm open to feedback on this one, but first, I'll go with the lucas, and probably pre-mix anyway. Dave

Thanks for the info. Kepp us posted about the result. I am trying to prolong engine life as long as possible, then go with used or rebuilt, too. The tranny seems loud in the lower gears, too, may also have a limited life span at this point. I'll check the fluid level ASAP. I have been re-building old 4x4s, so it sounds like good old gear whime from an early Jeep CJ or IHC Scout. Problem is that it is healthy in the trucks but not a Mazda.

mine gets louder when im in 5th gear, however I think I found a farely good used engine at this salvage yard out here in pahrump nevada, alot of people out hear sell there cars to the local salvage either because their clutch burns out and dont what to deal with it or because they need drug money, so the one I found is a 12a from a 84 GSL and doesnt appear to have any leaks ill look it over again and the guy sells them at like 300 bucks so I might just be in luck
