Make sure to remove the front pulley bolt in the eccentric shaft before removing the flywheel nut then. An impact gun is your friend. When removing the flywheel, once the nut is loose, spin the nut on a few threads then use a 3lb hammer to tap around the flywheel (not hitting the teeth). This will free the flywheel from the shaft.

Thanks Kansas, I already have the front cover off and all accessories, just trying to get the flywheel off so I can split the case, Oh and does anyone have a photo of the drain plug for the engine coolant? I still hear fluid sloshing around inside the engine.

glad to see you haven't given up on this ... figured as you had been off the radar it was probable that another first gen had been pushed aside or worse ... went to the boneyard

Still plugging away, I have been painstakenly trying to locate interior parts etc. Plus the fact that the entire car was riddled with black widows and brown recluse, which after stirring them up, they sought haven in the garage. I am hoping the 12A that is in it can be rebuilt, if not I will be looking for other alternatives like a 13B or possibly turbo II drivetrain. Noted wesmcbride, it looks like a PITA........

I once heated a flywheel nut with a propane torch (for a reasonable, safe time) to soften the loc-tite and was able to pop it loose with chisel and hammer. Im sure thats not the norm, but I was in a pinch and hey,it worked! Not on my engine,so there was no telling who or how the nut was run down, when it was assembled.

Finally got the damn nut off, now the flywheel is stuck on there, this is turning out to be a friggin nightmare!!!! Tried heat, no luck, tried puller, no luck, now I have a slide hammer and my damn arms are plumb wore out, and it still won't budge!! I'm guessing that this is all original and prolly abused, hope the engine internals are ok, or I'm screwed.....
