Oil Cooler curiosity.

I have a First gen Series 2, with the Oil cooler under the radiator up the front, My friend has a Series 3, and has the oil cooler near the firewall, mounted onthe block with the Oil filter on top of it.

we were talking the other day, and wondering , which cooler is more efficient ? the front mount series 2 setup, or the series 3 setup?

Yep, the under rad one is way better. Just to clarify, 83's (series 2) had the under filter one as well as Series 3 cars.

I've been wanting to convert to a front mount oil cooler. Is it very easy to do?

I have all the stuff to do the conversion, just haven't had time to do it yet. Its easy from what i've heard. Just make sure you get everything you need: oil cooler (w/mounting brackets), shorter rad, oil cooler lines, oil filter pedastal (goes where the current cooler is), and the hard water line that goes along the passenger side of the engine compartment (it goes from the bottom of the rad to the firewall). The only other thing you'll have to do is plug the "T" that comes out of the engine on the driver side, a hose connects to this and goes into the beehive style cooler so its no longer needed. Once I get to swap mine I'll post some pics.

Which oil cooler do you use? One from a GSL-SE, or an earlier one?

If you are going to be doing any hard driving get rid of that beehive under the oil filter! Your rotary will love you for it!

Earlier one, the SE oil coolers are known to crack and leak easily, at least thats what I've heard. The one I will be using is from a 79. If your into customization you could always use a second gen oil cooler, but that requires some custom work. The early first gen ones will work just fine and cost less (usually). So just go with one of those.

Damn you If that were true here I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of swapping them in both my 83's. Oh well.
