oil cooler

Ok guys, here's a couple questions...

I have an '82 GS, with an oil leak, but it has the "beehive" cooler...
I was under the impression that only 83 and later came with that setup.

the braided set of lines at racing beat for my model year says "not for use on 83 and later water/oil cooler"

Does this mean that they will not work on mine?

Is my car even supposed to have this cooler?

could i just get one of these:
and run a 86 & later cooler between the engine and a remote mounted filter (if so before or after the filter)?

thanks for your help
