Oil Capacities

HEY, I DON'T HAVE AN OWNER'S MANUAL AND MY ONLY HAYNES IS FOR A 2ND GEN(PREVIOUSLY OWNED)

I NEED TO KNOW THE OIL CAPACITY (WITH FILTER) FOR AN 84 SEVEN WITH THE WATER/OIL COOLER.

HAS ANYONE HEARD OF AN ONLINE MANUAL OR A .PDF FILE OF IT?

...SOMETIMES YOU CAN FIND THEM, I HAVE A .PDF FOR MY INFINITI J30.

THANKS.

Is it a GSL-SE? If it's a GSL-SE it holds 6.1 quarts according to the Haynes manual.
All other models hold 4.9 quarts.
Here is a link to a 85 service manual http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars/rx7/85_manual.html
The 84 and 85 should be the same, depending on if you have a GSL-SE (13b engine) or other model (12a engine)
I believe that online manual has info for both..

5 qts is what my haynes also says, but when I change my oil I use 4 qts. When I use 5 it is always high? About 1 qt to high?

Well, it wouldnt hurt to get a 5th and even 6th quart... you should always keep one in one of the storage bins anyway.

I've heard too much oil is no good. How much past the fill line is it reading?

1stgen_tn: start with 4 qts, then check level and fill accordingly.

I knew I should have changed the oil myself...
He added 6 quarts...so if 4.5 quarts fills your GSL-SE that means mine has 1.5 quarts too much...Time to let some out I think. It's only been driven 30 miles, and not over 4k rpm..Hopefully nothing was damaged...

There is always some oil sitting in the rotors and the oil cooler.

If you done any damage you would know it by now.
Do you have the Oil Rad under the Water Rad or the BeeHive setup?
Another words: If you look at your Oil Filter Ped does it have a BeeHive under it?

If it does not and there are 2 large lines going to a Small Rad under the Radiator from your engine, then you get a Double Plus.

(1st). Better Oil Cooler Setup
(2nd). Oil Capacity is (Approx 5.5 US Quarts). Cause you are filling up both the lines and the Rad.

If not then let it Burn off or Drain half a Quart.

I know in the Bonger World tooo much Oil.. Bad

In our World.. Too little-New Engine.
Remember one thing in a Rotary Engine 40%+ of the Cooling is done Thru the (Oil). Too little= $3000.00US
Babeling On.

I just decided to drain some since I was changing the rear end grease and transmission fluid anyway. Took out 1.5 quarts and it was right on the full mark.

You dont want to run your car over filled with oil. I really doubt it would hurt anything, but it makes your seals leak (too much pressure?). Last time I changed my oil I put in 5, the next day I noticed oil spots under where I parked. I drained out a quart and got no new spots.
