Unhappy Oh. My. God...

This morning, while sleeping at friend's house (lives across the street), I was awakened by a slight "pitter-patter." This "pitter-patter" soon developed into to, what I believed to be elephants tap dancing on the roof (Hey, it was 6:15 in the morning, only 4 hours after I had retired for the night). Monday, we were under a tornado watch and a tornado had been spotted not too far from my house; so, I figured, "HOLY JESUS! IT'S A TORNADO!" I start to move towards the bathroom to get into the tub when my friend decides to open the front door. I run over to see (like any curious teenager would), and what do I see? I see golf ball sized hail pelting one of the only things I love more than life itself... My 1985 Mazda RX-7 is standing tough, though. Luckily, no glass was broken, and most of the dents are on the hood (which i have a spare of). Two of the biggest dents, though are in pretty bad places. The first is about an inch away from door sill on the roof on the driver's side. It isn't terrible, but I'm sure it will be tough to get out. The other is right after the top bend in the driver's side front fender. You know the bend where after the bend it is flat and the hood starts next to it? Well, that's where it is. I'm grateful that the storm was moving at 45mph, though because it would have surely damaged more if it were going slower. I am also grateful that my dad didn't leave the house as early as he normally does. If he would have left at his normal time, he would have probably gotten to the top of the street before being his new STi got pelted. I don't have any pictures of the dents, yet, but I do have pictures of the hail that I will post. What a way to start the day, huh?

If any fellow -7- owners in Louisiana, or any area for that matter have had hail damage to their vehicles or their property, I feel your pain, and I'm sorry that it happened. It's quite a helpless feeling to know that you can't stop it from just beating the mess out of your stuff.

Thanks, guys. I wish I would had some kind of warning this was coming. The news said that the storm formed in 30 minutes... Oh well, I guess all I have left to do now is fix it.

There was a bad hail storm in Bowling Green, KY about 6-7 years ago. I was driving a FC then and it got straight pelted by hail. I was helplessly watching as it happend. HUGE baseball/softball sized hail whamed against the glass, but that hatchglass must be tough because it didn't even crack. Lots of body damage, however...
Sorry to hear about your car, though.

Thanks again, guys. A guy down my street video taped the ordeal and sent it in to one of the local news stations. They haven't posted the video on the website, but they a picture from the video. Let me see if I can get the link....

It was kind of cool to see a person I see everyday (and who will also be my teacher sooner or later) on the news.

Ouch. How big was the hail, Hades? It must have been pretty large to do $3K. Unless, the storm just hung around and dumphail on it for a while. I guess I was pretty lucky, considering the storm moved through so quickly.
