OH Damn Need help with brakes!!! rusty rotten POS

On a good note im glad this happened while I was parked and not doing 55 something MPH. Im outside today adjusting the carb. I'm thinking I will get to drive the car today. If all went well, my father got the plates in the mail on on there way to me on Saturday. chould be here today or tomorrow.

So anyways I'm playing in the car. I put my foot on the brake pedal. I feel the normal resistance then pop nothing. straight to the floor. I pump it a couple times hoping it was a fluke (fat chance). I get out look uder the car. dont see any leeks under the car at all. Go to the shed and get some brake fluid pour it in and pump the brakes again. Nothing. But at least now I have pumped enough brake fluid though that when I look under the car this time I see a nice wet spot under the car. Best I can tell is I broke a hard line. just from age and rust. Its behind the little cover on the rear axle. Wich is now soaking in WD40.

I cant get them off right now so this is where I need help. How long are the hard brake lines on the axle of a 1985 GSL? I cant find prebent and VB was them straight in different lenthes. I just want to get them before I start the work that will give the WD40 a chance to soak in before they get here. I need both the left and the right lines no point in just changing one.

Go to any parts store and they usually sell lengths of brakeline with one preflared end and a brake fitting, whatever metric size we use. Get yourself a cheap pair of tube bending pliers and your good to go. The pliers make bending the line a breeze and your going to have to double-flare a couple more ends also. Either you can buy a cheap flaring kit, or maybe your parts store rents them out. Either way it shouldn't be too hard.

Thank you very much Gavinjuice. I canceled the order with vb in a hurry and went to advanced auto. They had everything needed.

1- 51 inch japanese hard line
1- 30 inch .....
1- tube bender

all the above was less than $15.00

10 mm wrench

here are some before and after shots. In the before I already cut out the old lines. Vice grips came in handy taking out the old fittings. but after you cut the line off you can fit a socket or box end over the fitting to keep from stripping it. Stripping them is VERY easy!

Hey everyone when was the last time you looked at your hardlines? mine gave way in the parking spot. if you started driving the car that has been sitting for a couple years. you may want to inspect and drop the $15.00 for the peace of mind.

wow that looks good...

since i've had my car i replaced the calipers, rotors, pads, master cyl, brake lines to ss brake lines...only thing left are the hard lines which i gave consideration on redoing...i knew it wasn't difficult but i didn't know it was so cheap!

did you do the fronts as well?
