Disc Brakes

I'm told that First-Gens started with drum brakes, and swapped to 4-wheel discs later. Assuming that this is coorect, at what point did the change happen? Is it unreasonable to want to put 6 pinton calipers and 13" rotors on?

81 was the first year of rear disc brakes as an option. Upgrade started in 84 with the gsle
with larger brakes. About 6 piston caliper and 13 inch brakes? You make it work and i'll look at it. rx7doctor

Not unreasonable to want that at all. I'd have to question why however - unless it's a race car, or you frequently tow buildings, then there's really not a lot of point. If you want very large brakes, you'd be better off replacing the entire diff and brakes with something more suitable (such as a Ford 8.8"), ditto for the front hubs and stubs.

I have seen some very nice slotted/x-drilled rotors advertised...

SevensOnly has created a huge brake kit... You're gonna have to find some 16 or 17 inch wheels... The kit is like US$2000 for front and rear. They are 4 or 6 pot calipers, fixed.

It's these rotors that I like. Kangaroo Paw Gold discs.

Edit: As they aren't available for the SA/FB I'd have to make some modifications anyway...
