I am having a hard time trying to figure this out. My 84gs will is running great but sometimes the voltage will dip down below 9 on my gauge and will stay there until I park the car. When I start the car up again the gauge jumps back to 12 to 14. My battery light never comes on and I had the alt checked and it is charging fine. I checked my battery cables and they seem to be fine also. Could it be the gauge itself or am I missing something.

 

Could just be the crappy 60 amp alt in the car. AC on Stereo on?

Clean all the cables and the posts on the battery. Also take off the ground where it bolts near the driver side strut tower and clean it.

Check all connections at the alternator.
After all done, then having charging system tested.

 

Along with what doc said, try adding a ground wire from the back of the alt body, to the negative battery terminal. Sometimes, the alt doesn't get a good ground to the engine, due to corrosion on the mounting surfaces.

 

yeah If I crank my ac and sub. Batt dies on a daily basis even if I am driving. Need an alt upgrade.

Cmon rxdoc you know you cant run **** on these old cars.
