hmm i think if you wanted to go the other way, FB trans with SA tailhousing that always works? maybe you swap the shift rod?

but putting an FB tail housing on an early SA box, can be done, but you need to change the shift fingers, doable, but more work than its worth, unless you were gonna take it apart anyways
it's the shifter position between the sa and fb. the shifter is roughly 4" farther back in the fb. in but there's more than just swapping the housing. the shaft the runs from the bottom of the shifter up to the shifting forks is shorter on the sa trans. once u get the tail housings off both trannys and start comparing things, u'll see what needs to be swapped out.

You may have to bend the gas pedal closer to the brake pedal as I have had to do on all of my stick shift cars, or install one of those pedal kits, wich will widen the brake pedal and/or extend the gas pedal to the left a little bit. With practice, it's not as hard as it sounds. What is does is GREATLY reduce the load on the syncros and it WILL stop the grinding or at least reduce it greatly.
I have started doing this if I am driving agressively and having fun... it really helps to ease the tranny into lower gears... If I am putt putting around, I just slowly downshift into 2nd.... It seems to be OK about NOT grinding now...

This makes me happy

Yeah, rev matching can help your stuff last longer. And it makes chicks hot if you do it right.

Glad your tranny has decided to behave.

I am going to put Lucas oil stabilizer in my rear axle assembly.... I hope it will quieten the slight noise I hear when you let off the gas at highway speeds and load the gears the opposite direction...

Our resident oil expert out at Dow Chem (where I work)... says that Lucas products help by adding "tackifiers"..... in other words it holds to the gears without slinging off as much....

I am a total believer in Lucas Products
