Not Cranking
Hey guys I am almost finished with my A/T to M/T swap and I tried to start it up but it wouldn’t budge. It wouldn’t even crank. It’s not a battery issue. I don’t think it is a relay issue (although i’m not 100% i’ll have to test it) What else could it be?
I have a suspicion that not everything is connected to the starter though, i have the main two wires but there is one other connector that is not connected to anything. The problem with this is the female end of this connector is attached to the automatic transmission so I am not able to plug it in but I think this is the cause of my no start no crank. I bypassed the Neutral safety switch by connecting the power and the ground so I don’t think that is why the car isn’t starting but maybe I bypassed it wrong.
The picture I have attached shows the connector that is attached to the Automatic transmission. (outlined in purple) I would like to know what the purpose of this connector is and if I need it somehow to start the car.
Anybody who is experienced on wiring please help as I am not very good at it, i am just learning. Thanks in advance.

Look at the Section A -Charging System - Starting System wiring diagram here.https://www.foxed.ca/rx7manual/manua...ingDiagram.pdf
There are 4 connection to the strater. All you really need are the battery connection and a 12V trigger from the ignition switch. Make sure you have 12V on that trigger wire.
1. Batt +
2. Batt -
3. 12V from ignition
4. 12V to the Hot Start motor. This DOES NOT need to be connected to run/start. The starter supplies the Hot Strat motor 12V.

I have been trying to find this trigger wire but I haven’t been able to find it and I think that’s the reason it is not starting. I found a wire that is hot when i turn the key on but when i connected it to the starter nothing happened.
Maybe this could have to do with the neutral safety switch bypass though. On that wiring diagram I can see the signal wire comes in through the safety switch on the with a BY wire and out through a BW wire. Maybe if i run a wire from one of these straight to the starter that will act as the signal wire?

Look at page "A" of the 1983 wiring diagram. It shows connection X-10 has connector A-01. X-10 is in the engine bay near the brake master connects to the trans harness.
A-01 has two pins in the connector. The left hand pin (when looking at the connector from its face) is BY (Black/Yellow) for the M/T (Manual Transmission). The connector on the right is BW (Black/White) for the A/T (Automatic Transmission).
Try connecting a wire from the BY (12 gauge) to the starter trigger connection. Do not connect the BY.
