Was nose to nose with a Canadian Spec 1996 e36 BMW m3 yesterday

well yesterday coming off work, this m3 pulls up besides me .... i knew it was the second gen one, and i thought that I'd have my *** handed to me. So we're sitting at the light and he was looking at me and reving, so i reved too. A v6 camero pulls up to my right too and he starts reving too. Light turns green and we all go, bmw pulls up on me at first till i hit about 6,000rpm when we get nose to nose, the camero ... well it seemed like it was just sitting there lol. Second gear same thing, third gear also nose to nose. We stoppped there cause our speed were getting a little to fast for that road and pulled in the next parking lot. He told me it was a 1996 e36 m3, its a the canadian spec one with the 3.0l engine and 240hp if i recall correctly. I've always thought they're faster then that but I guess that I was wrong. unless he didn't know how to drive properly.

Not too burst your bubble or anything, but a canadian spec 96 e36 m3 is a 286 hp one, 0-60 in 6.0 sec car. Impossible you'd keep up with it unless a) the guy doesn't know how to drive or b) he wasn't racing seriously.

Well, correction to the above. The 1994 Canadian E36 M3 was the 286 hp one. The 1996 Canadian M3 was basically the 97 US 3.0l, 240 hp one. But even then, it'd be hard for a estimated(?) 150 hp FB to keep up with it.

You really should have raced that Z3 you most likley would have killed him. Those things are DOG slow. I drove one and it didn't even feel like it was gonna go. My RX is definatly faster then that thing.

I've got a mazdees large SP 12a
SDJ headers, 2.5" piping to a magnaflow muffler
RB SP holley 465cfm carb and intake manifold
Mallory comp 140 Fuel Pump

Thats about it for the performance wise. I'm running ASA 14x6" rims with Road king tires to keep the power to the ground.

I know that he was trying hard because he told me so when we stopped to talk. Unless he was bullshitting which i doubt was the case. and he's the one that basically started it. Anyone know whats the torque on them?

A generous estimate would be 140ish to the wheels. Even with the weight difference it wouldn't make sense that it could keep up with the M3. So if the guy was really trying he didn't know how to drive. Or, he was having mechanical problems that hindered his car's performance.

hmm. that would make sense, a rex with 140 to the wheels is nice though, so it has about 160 horse, thats pretty good, still that m3 is almost double the 7 and is a little bit heavier.

It depends. The 1.9l Z3 maybe, just maybe. But not the 6 cylinder ones.

Ya i dunno I should try racing another one just to make sure. I don't know how much HP i'm putting out, but like i said before I was for sure my *** would of been handed to me

And are those 1.9L z3 really that slow? I thought that they were semi of a power house but i guess not.

Well, an SE or a modded 12A like yours dj55b should be able to kill a 1.9l Z3.

90% of the ones on the road are those 1.9's. It is hard to find the here with the inline 6.

A lightly modded 12A could beat one of those things. He should destory it. I knew a girl that drove one and It was extremly slow.

Well let's define lightly modded, because the 1.9l Z3 is a 138 hp, 2723 lbs, 0-60 in 8.3 secs car. It would take more than what Jozay has to match that.

I dunno and I really don't care about Z3's considering alot of BMW's my family has owned are raging pieces of **** and break all the time. I am sure thats not everyones experience, but just mine.

Well you and Mazda12AGS have very simmilar mods (extra 10-15 hp?), so neither one should be able to beat a stock 4-cyl Z3.
