Nose Holes

Is it normal to have 3 holes in the front nose of my 83? While the 81-83 emblem has 2 pins and these line up with 2 of the existing holes, the layout makes no sense for the 84-85 3 pin emblem. The extra is conveniently covered by the first 'a' in 'mazda'.

Looks factory, unless you've repainted. Might be a transitional body thing to allow use of either design of front emblem. Japan is pretty economical when it comes to such logical things, though this is the first I've seen of this in almost 50 years of Rx7 ownership...

Yeah, I wondered if the holes were there to accommodate both emblem designs, but it's incompatible with the three pin 84-85 emblem. My build date is 04/83 FWIW.

I don't think there was any body work in that area before, although the old emblem was cracked in the middle of the 'm' and then glued back together.

After my nose is repaired, I'll to modify the new 3 pin emblem to fit the previous 2 holes.

When I had my 84SE painted, I had them weld over the holes and refinish to perfectly smooth. 😎

Same. I replaced the badge with a vinyl decal for easier washing and waxing.
