noob needing help

I finally got my car running and we let the oil burn off. It took about 15 minutes to finish burning off. I took it out for the first time and went run it. Everytime I floored it it diodn't take off, it slowly got up to speed. It idle over 3000 rpm. My friend adjusted it to that because it wouldnt idle any lower I believe. It just doesn't feel right, like it has no power. Can anybody explain what might or what they think I can do to fix this?

It sounds like you have no leading ignition. That's where I'd start looking. Gook luck...

Well I changed the spark plug wires and it is starting up by itself now, I am going to change the spark plugs next. It runs but it won't run at a low rpm. It will stay around 2000rpm, but when it goes lower it boggs down and cuts off. While idling at 2000rpm, it sputters a lot. I don't know if this is a common thing or not just thought I would tell ya'll. My friends dad thinks they have a vaccumm leak somewhere on the carb. Also, that little bar that opens the secondaries is broken. How can I fix thta or do I have to bring it somewhere to get it fixxed?
Thanks,
Josh.

I was driving the car last night and she seemed to be running fine, I started to move and then she sputtered and shut off. I couldn't get her started for about 15 minutes. I got her started and pulled in a parking lot to wait for my girlfriend to get off of work. Right before we get ready to leave the car shuts off again. I then sat in the parking lot for 40 minutes while it rained its *** off. The rain lightened up a bit and I tried to start it. It sputtered some more and then started up. The whole way home the car sputtered its *** off. I couldn't let it go below 3000rpm because it would sputter and die. What can be causing this to happen. I am thinking it possibly has some bad gas. Can anybody help me out!?!?!!?!?

pull the thicker line of the carb and poor some into a little metal container, DONT USE STYROFOAM, and then see if it lights, if it lights, good gas, if not....drain it. while ur at it use the hanes to make sure ur getting the right fuel flow.

If thouse check out, Check the ignition get a spark plug, ground it out on a part of the chasis so you can see it. (strut tower works) anc crank. Make sure you have leading and trailing ignition. Oh yeah, if you pull a spark outta the housing, make sure that u dissconnect the wire leading to the adjacent spark in that housing.

Hope this helps if not let me know where ya get.

CHECK YOUR TIMING!!!!
