Noob - LUCKY ME !!!!!

Hello ladies and gentlemen- My name is Mark, and I was lucky enough to be at a charity auction, when a BEAUTIFUL 85 RX-7 was sold. The car was announced as a frozen motor/ never heard run .It was black, and beautiful, and so I bid anyway - and won!
My brother was with me ,and we started to explore. We jump started the car - yes that is right, it fired right up! Man was I stoked!!! We had to leave, so pulled the car outside the gate to pick up later that night.
We came back at about 900 that night, and jumped it again, and drove to a gas station, to air up, and look her over.Put air in the tires, and took off for home.
Bells came on , temp gauge climbed, and we pulled over right away.Top hose was hard as a rock, and the overflow tank was doin' "Old Faithful". I decided to remove the thermostat, thinking it might be stuck. Took off the bolts, and it was rusted shut.
The system looked clean, but the lower lip had a deposit at the bottom that affected the stat.
Filled with water, and drove home, with the gauge at the bottom 1/3 of the scale - and steady.
Next day, I see that the original cable ends are cruddy, and wallowed out, so I replace the ends on both, and put in a new battery.
It won't start.I pull the plugs, and the top right is black, and gas fouled. No problem, I order new plugs, and install. (Nippon Denso W25 EBR)
All 3 other plugs were brown but well used.
It still won't start!! And so ,I seek you out , to say ...... What did I do?????

What you did/

Did the car quit or did you shut it down?

I am looking for an 83 motor.

I'd say back trace your steps. T2 was the only plug gas fouled? After you put the new plugs in was it still gas fouling?

When I pulled into my driveway , she was running sweet, nice on the temp gauge, and I turned it off normally.
I would guess after my repeated attempts to start, that they are fouled.I have not looked, but the exhaust smells, and smokes VERY lightly, as it tries to start.
I think this car sat, for an extended period, smells skunk like in tank, so I added some Stabil, and 2 gallons of fresh 91 octane Shell, tonight when I came in.
I see what you are saying, I will look to see if I am getting fuel.
I have a new air, oil, and fuel filter ordered, and after looking at the cap and rotor, I will be ordering them too.
Just seems wierd that I am running strong - really sweet!, and then , the next day , it won't start.

Thanks for your replies!!!

Sorry, T-2 was only gas foul , the others were nice burn brown - sexual chocolate!
VERY old though, no maintenance in some time, dirty filter, old plugs, dirty coolant, original EVERYTHING.Exceptional garage stored, clean black shiny car.
PDI sticker, and championship sticker still in window.Possibly original NGK plugs.
Second sunroof panel in bag, laying on factory cardboard.

I recommend before you start putting parts on, even though they are needed. Do a compression test first. Then verify you have spark to both leading and trailing plugs. If both of those are good then start the complete maintenance service.

If the fuel smells that bad recommend you drain the tank. should be a drain at the bottom.
Unfortuneatly stabil will not do anything after the fact, it's before storage. Change the filter and make sure you have good fuel volume according to specs.Keep us informed and congratulations on your find.

this prolly wont help any, but i was once told that you shouldnt use anything other than NGK plugs. this wouldnt be the problem for your car, but i thought i would mention.

you don't need 91 octane on a n/a rotary... it is better if you use 87
