For starters, my car is a 1979 with a late-model electronic distributor. I have one brand new 12V coil installed, and the other, slightly older coil shows the correct number of ohms, so I assume it’s healthy. I’m quite certain the dizzy has been wired correctly, because even though I didn’t wire it myself, I went through it all and checked it with one of Rad Potential’s videos.
Anyway, I finally got around to checking for spark yesterday, and found that I was getting nothing. I’ve been troubleshooting a little, but thought I would ask everyone’s opinion on here. When checking the inside of the dizzy, I noticed the metal pickups were corroded to some degree, as well as that center rotor that “strikes” the pickups. Do you guys think this corrosion could be preventing any spark? Either way, how should I go about cleaning this? Is a wire brush fine, or some fine grit sandpaper?
