no power (increase) past 4000 RPM?

Over the past weekend my car seems to have lost the ability to increase power past 4000 RPM. As soon as i pass 4000 RPM it almost feels as if i've shifted into the next gear - in terms of what happens to the power band. it pulled nicely as of last week, any idea's on what has happened? it idles nice, and doesn't appear to have any other issues.

What i've looked into:
- Fuel filter still clear and looks clean
- Fuel pressure at carb. > 3 psi
- Fuel volume at carb. > 1.1 L/min.
- Spark plugs look normal

you car should pull hardest at 4k rpm.

also, may want to check your plug wires and dizzy cap/rotor.

i checked the dist. cap/rotor both looked fine. and the wires are less than 5 months old. i'm going to try and drop the cats sometime soon to see if that makes a difference.

it just doesn't feel right at all past 4K RPM. As the power falls off it, struggles to hit redline. it will make it, but its not like i need to race it to shift anymore... Basically, if i shift at 4K RPM each gear it's just as fast as redlining every gear - that's not right.

any other suggestions?

UPDATE

Ok, so after dropping the cats (unbolted from the reactor, and just let the cats/exhaust hang slightly away allowing enough room) and letting most of my neighborhood know i was working on my car - i went for a small test drive.

Sure enough, power is back - i guess it is time for a new exhaust... thanks

Hell i get that w/ my RB street port w/ ricer muffler.

I test drove my new car (gsl-se, bone stock, w/ o exhaust). I never realized how many people hated it

"OH hey!!! You finally got rid of that terrible broken exhaust!" "No, just test driving this one"

"Oh...."
