No power on the 7
No power on the 7
This is the first rotary powered car I have ever looked at. A friend of mine aquired a 1980 RX7 and it doesn't even have power to it. During the process, I have looked at the wiring and it all seems fine. The previous owner said it ran and thats all the information I have. He's done a oil change, plugs, and put some gas in it. Other than recharging the battery, the car doesn't even turn on. No power whatso ever. I'm assuming his battery is dead. We swapped out that battery with an optoma battery from his 94 7 and I think I heard the head light motor turn on but other than that still no lights or anything. Not even a click from the starter. I'm going to recharge his battery and try it out and see what it does. Besides that, there is a fuse under the dash that are blown, would this cause it to not get power? It's a 20 amp fuse. We are just trying to get it started and work from there. Also, does this model have a clutch button switch so you can start the car? meaning if I don't have the clutch pressed in, will the car start? Also, when starting it, I'm assuming you have to pull the choak cable and when it starts, press it back in (just like a lawn mower)? A side from that, is there anything else I can check to have the lights on the guage and everything turn on so I could work from there? Thanks for reading this novel. I appreciate all the help.
Check the fusible links. Also, where the battery cable connects to the starter, and the ground wire too... Probably a fusible link though (as long as '80s use them, not sure)...
Theyre "wires" on the drivers side inner fender. There are three of them and theyre only a few inches long. They come out of a small black box and loop back into it. Theyre basically fuses, but instead of being metal, theyre just wire that will burn up. Make sure current is flowing through all of them. If not, you need to replace it. If the battery or charger was accidently hooked up wrong, or shorted out, it would blow the "main" link, which would cause the exact problems you are describing.

Alright. Thanks. Where would I get some of the wire if it is blown out? Also, are they under the fender or still inside the engine bay? I think I might know what you are talking about but I don't remember three wires. I'll double check.
