No idle speed screw on carb???

I have been searching for the idle speed screw for months now on my 85 gsl. I cannot find it for the life of me. can't find the mixture screw either. I have looked at many diagrams and it simply just isn't there. Is it possible to just not have one? or am I just blind? I'm almost positive it was bought brand new in California so maybe has something to do with emissions? I'm at a loss here.

**edit** I will post pics of where the screws should be when I get the chance.

IIRCC the mix one is pretty obvious but the idle speed is really buried and more toward the firewall. It faces the same direction as the mix screw. Need a long flat blade screw driver and asbestos skin.

the mixture screw could possibly have the security cap on it that is always referenced in the FSM, but i have never seen one in person.

Agree with Toruki that the idle screw is buried towards the firewall on the carb and is really just a set/stop screw on the primary linkage where the throttle/choke/etc cables connect.

I can't seem to adjust mine. It idles at 850rpm. Is that normal?

Truenogts88,850 is a tad high. 750-800 rpm is a good target idle speed. Does your idle speed screw do anything when turned out? If turning in raises idle speed, possible throttle cable is a bit too tight. Just happened to see your post in antenna thread,is your car a 2nd gen T2? If yes will be FI and 850 rpm is real close to where it should idle.

That idle speed is about right for your car. Not certain if you're referring to idle air bypass adjustment. I would leave as is if all else seems to be ok.

Would you like me to take some pics of the idle and mixture adjustment screws and post them?

First pic is from the Mazda Carburetor Manual 1979-1985. (This can be downloaded by following the link in the 3rd Sticky post in this forum.
The two screws face the left.

The second only shows the Mixture adjust screw.
The third is the idle (Throttle adjust screw), below and to the rear of the accelerator pump.

I suggest a very long screwdriver. I picked up a set (phillips and flat) from Harbor Freight.

This is for a stock 84 12a Niki Carb.

I'm sure there are plenty in this forum that can answer this, but this is the First gen (1979-1985) section. We don't want to confuse others that might read this thread and get the 2nd gen mixed up with a 1st gen.

A t2 engine doesn't normally have a carburetor , and is usually EFI. So it wouldn't apply.
Do you have a carb on your T2? What kind?

Maybe start a new thread to get your answers.

Ha! I like that better, I have a "long" screw driver but it lands my knuckles near all the hot stuff.
