Nitrous on a Nikki... ????

I picked up a 85 GS as a parts car but decided to keep it instead since it was CLEAN. This was two years ago...

Since the point of deciding to keep her I made the decision to run nitrous on it and NOT TO CHANGE course. Every upgrade since the car was COMPLETLY STOCK has been done knowing the end result is to run some Nitrous.

The plan is to have a COMPLETLY STREETABLE rotary, able to handle a 150 shot. The plan is to start off with a 50 shot for now and take it from there.

I've been working on getting rid of all of the cars small quirks now for about two weeks. I have $2500 put aside STRICTLY for this project, and FINALLY have the free time.

I've been reading for about a week in the archives, search, other sites, etc to find out as much as I can while keeping notes...

Here's the set-up I'm running:

- 74 13B 4 port (stock).
- YAW carburator.
- Holley Blue pump.
- 1/2" feed fuel line from tank to carb.
- Two 3/8" return fuel lines
(one from the carb return to the tank,
other from regulator return to tank)
- RB header and presilencer.
- 2.5 piping w/a aftermarket muffler.

Everything else is stock, ignition, clutch, gears, tranny, etc.... but I have a shitload of goodies that I'm going to put on as needed from my orginal 85 that I stripped and junked being this parts car turned out to be so orginal, clean and intact.

I'm ready to buy the kit, $$$$ in hand, but I would like some advice / input if anyone has... And of course I'll add any info I learn as the project goes on.

Again this is going on a YAW nikki carb w/ stock manifold.

My father runs nitrous on his big block 67 Camaro so I do have a guy in my corner with N2O experience.

Wet kit, dual foggers tapped into the intake is what I'm thinking...???

I'm not a big expert on nitrous, as I have only done a few "kits," but I do have a couple of suggestions. The ignition system definitely should be upgraded..Maybe MSD boxes and some nice blaster coils. Makes a huge difference, esp in a rotary do to the poor combustion chamber shape. Sounds like you started in the right place with a good carb and fuel system! Also, the drivetrain is kinda weak on 1st gens, but depending on how much/often nitrous you use it may be a while before you break something, I would recommend replacing any worn mounts with new after market stuff BEFORE they break.. Post some pictures of your project, I know I'll be interested to see how it turns out!

Sorry, I DO have BlasterII coils and MSD 8.5 wires already. I also have two MSD6A's that I bought but never put in. I think I'm going to tackle that next.

I have everything to run a TII transmission from my last car, ACT 4 puck, driveshaft, LW flywheel, extra rears etc, but I'm going to wait on that stuff.

wet kit is the only way to go... ther are also a few other mods you must do to make it "safe" dont listen to any1 that says to run a 150shot you have to have a street port or better(they are ******* dumb)all porting wont make it any stronger only breath better

that said you wont find to much on nitrous.. most the ppl here say not to use it

i have used and have a nice set up... it would cost like $2200 if you got no deals to built my set up... but it is as safe as can be IMO

parts:
high psi oil reg.
gslse oil pump
FMOC
4 foggers
stand alone fule system(methanol)
locked dist
2 MSD diggy6 boxes
3 MSD blaster coils
bottle gauge
bottle warmer
purge
PLX wideband

that is the short list i can give more detale if you want to know. and rearson for everything..

but so you know 150shot the motor may last 6 months... maybe longer maybe shorter

but a wet foger kit is the only way to go

cheers PaTricK

What's up Joe/LWNSLW...??? Man sometimes I wish I didn't need the $$$$ and never sold you that turbo set-up... How's that coming along...???

I showed my pops a extra intake manifold I have laying around for the Nikki and he doesn't like it at all. He says it's very short and there's nowhere to put foggers on the primary runners. It would have to be two foggers, one on each secondary runner only.

We have a Holley set-up from Racing Beat... a 600 carb and intake which he likes much better, especially since slapping a nitrous plate btwn the two is a heck of alot easier... and each intake runner would get the nitrous seperated evenly amongst themselves.

But my thing is the Nikki is running AWESOME and I don't want to go straight to the Holley without seeing what the Nikki can do. I'd like to have something to compare the Holley to if I do run it in the future.

Patrick... I do have a FMOC already. I'm in the process of putting in the MSD set-up, & I'm thinking a wideband is going to be next on the list.

i wish it was as ez as slaping a holley nitrous plate on it.. you ahve to mill the inside of the RB manifold down or the nitrous/fuel will puddle up(over looked alot) and a 600cfm holley is to big for a stock 12a... it will run but with out a wide band its a pain int the *** to get it running well enough to drive and it will always have a dead spot in it the best thign to do is RB manifold and 4 foggers and the write size carb for your motor
