Nikki manifold modification?

Ok i will be getting a Sterling carb in the near near future, and i will be taking off my intake manifold in the next week to replace the manifold gasket and O rings.

I was wondering what type of modifications could be made to it to make it flow better?

So far i am thinking of just match porting, and knocking down some of the casting flash that may be present. and if the runners are really rough sand them down a little bit, but leave a slightly rough finish to keep fuel seperation down.

I have to keep the ACV btw.

You could put a spacer in between the manifold and the engine and weld those coolant holes shut.

There are multiple....bumps...??? anyway take a dremmel or something and smoothe those out a bit, all the holes in the manifold for brake booster or ... I forget anything else smoothe those out so they flow better going into the engine.

Last thing, if you need the ACV, you may or may not need the little butterfly in the manifold at the top. It is called the shutter valve or the deceleration valve. If you remove this you can fill in those holes, make the other runner slightly larger, and smooth out that little indentation inbetween the two primaries.

I have not port matched myself, but I have heard that you loose velocity in doing this so I would not recommend it until you further investigate it. No sence waisting a good manifold.

Yes, make sure to keep the finish at least semi rough for the atomization of the fuel and air.

Last piece of advice, be carefull where you remove matterial, it does have places that you will go through the walls into something else. Feel around to see how much leeway you have in that aspect.

Yeah i allready removed the Shutter valve.

I will definitly research more into the port velocity loss with pmatching.

I believe that sterling and carl are working on a modded manifold, you might pm them and see if they have any tips.

By the way, pass out any info you find out about their "secret project".

i will reveal any finding i may find when playing with my manifold, but if sterling needs a guini pig for manifolds i will be willing to when i save enough $$ for his carb and manifold.
