Nikki carburetor weight location?
Hey everyone.
1st time Nikki rebuild on an 85 rex. Doing great so far but I have an extra weight and dont know where it goes. I do know that there are 2 check ***** and 3 weights. I have the two check ***** and weights for the acc pump inlet and outlet accounted for. I just dont know where the last, largest, weight goes.
Using the diagram included I just dont see it. HELP!

The one diagram is really packed!
Grab the carb manual PDF here:

I'm waiting for it, and the carb rebuild pics from my digicam to download and I'll post with the answer if nobody beats me to it.

Hmmm... even in that manual it's missing BUT if memory serves me right...
Go to page 109 of that PDF, if your weights for #5 and #10 are accounted for, then I believe it goes under the plug #24.
It's the only place left for it to go, and makes sense as the place that has a weight but no checkball.

Nope, he's got that one accounted for.
There's the accelerator pump outlet (where #71 in his diagram and its associated checkball go), the accelerator pump inlet (where #74 and its associated checkball go) and another weight that goes in a third spot that doesn't appear on the diagram.
I remember reading a thread somewhere a LONG time back where someone posted "no, you're not losing your mind, there is a third weight and no it doesn't have a checkball". I just can't remember where.

Glad I am not losing my mind, I dont see it accounted for anywhere. The plug under #24 makes perfect sense because it fits!
Some pics included of the break-down.

Well, I took at a look at the top picture and made another weight from a hardened steel drill bit. We'll see how it works, I just cut it to 17mm like in the top picture. Try it out if you lose your brass one.

Not sure if being made of brass or using a metal drill bit cut to size but the one thing I noticed that the placement of the weights and check ***** made everything fit to perfection.

The "wieght" is actually a vacuum valve for the richer solenoid. The richer solenoid is plugged into the back of the carb, right below the weight and cap screw. The solenoid itself is an electromagnetic switch, so I'd have to say that it might actually not be a good idea to use steel.
I don't know how the carb will perform mileage wise without that in place; -probably better. I doubt any performance change will be noticed.
