Nikki Carb Owners Poll #1

To better serve you, and make gazillions of dollars :rollseyes: , I would like to know the "needs" of those FB owners that like the idea of keeping either a stock or modified Nikki carb.
I will be conducting a series of polls to better understand what you all would like from your carbureted rotaries. Some of these polls will be about new product ideas that will attempt to help with some shortcomings of the carbs, like for example, fuel consumption. Other polls will just be about performance and where you like to have the power in the RPM band. There will be a few polls regarding the expectations of a bolt-on supercharger unit that utilizes an Eaton M-90, a Sterling Carb or Banana Carb, an intercooler, and a complete on-dash non-electronic boost control unit.
Still other polls in the future will be about new product ideas that have nothing to do with induction.

I ask that you please only post and participate in the polls if you own and will continue to run a Nikki carb.

Please do not begin a forced-induction debate on these threads.

I hope that any of you who might do so will understand and appreciate the fact that Carl and I DO NOT make alot of money from what we do, and that our primary goal is to offer an affordable alternative choice of fun to our rotary bretheren.

I've torn down my Nikki, at least a half dozen times. Mostly my own fault. It's not that hard. No one should be afraid to do it. As far as mods go, as long as no machining is involved, I plan to do as much as possible myself.

I've rebuilt mine a couple of times, pretty involved but not that difficult, I thought. I hope not to have to do it again as I've got a pair of sidedraft solexes to install this spring as a replacement...

rebuilt mine
pretty easy compared to some others ive dealt with (stupid ford reflex carb)

but I want to stay with modded nikki's since they are very econonical for me , ~$350 mod vs 600-700$ setup

Nikki Carburetor Services

Current carburetor rebuilds & modification services-

Send your carburetor along with a check to either Carl Perez, or myself. We wait until the check clears before we start.
All carburetors get completely broken down, scrubbed, degreased, rinsed, heat-dried, and the main body and airhorn get beadblasted. (Upon rebuild, your carburetor may end up with the main body and airhorn from another carburetor, but the same year. If it's important to you that your carburetor remain homogenously yours, please tell us.)
Everything gets rebuilt using a Hygrade rebuild kit - the best we've tested so far.
Emissions components are stripped on modified carburetors, but for simple rebuilds, if you require emissions components to stay on the carburetor the rebuild period may be a little longer.
Please specify what you need retained on your carburetor regarding the choke and emissions system.
The idle is set high and the mixture is set to 2.25 turns from closed. We do NOT test run the rebuilds.
Rebuilds can take 2-8 weeks, and modifications can take 6-12 weeks depending on method of payment, holidays, amount of extranious components that need to be retained, and our schedule. We strive for customer satisfaction, and we try to get them out as fast as possible. Nothings worse than having an unfinished job that you've already been paid for hanging over your head.

Upon inquiring about our services, we will send you a form email to fill out. Included in the form are questions about yourself that will better help us to understand our customer needs. We want to see who's buying our stuff!
More importantly though the form will contain a disclaimer, may contain an applicable warrantee, and also packaging instructions. You are required to reply to the email stating that you abide by the conditions of the disclaimer and payment program even if you choose not to answer the questions before we proceed.

A free flowing exhaust and fuel delivery system upgrade is suggested.
The emissions control system will function with this carburetor, but results cannot be gauranteed. It is not yet known to us if this carburetor will pass stringent emmissions testing.

thanks for the quick reply. I am hoping to have enoughmoney sometime soon to atleast get the partially modified version. I still do have to pass emissions, so that concerns me a little, but they do not seem to be that picky. Thanks for the info.

How about selling a re-packaged rebuild kit that has all the parts needed for a rebuild. The ones I've seen are always missing something.

The one I got didn't have weights or checkballs and it had the cheap, paper washers. When it turned out I was missing a weight, I had to make my own out of brass rod. When it turned out the checkballs were really ugly and pitted, I found some close in size at a hardware store.

I haven't seen more complete kits. Maybe you know of a commercially-available quality rebuild kit. If there isn't one, maybe you guys could sell one. If there is one and I've missed it, my bad. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

I've been talking to Carl alot about his carbs but to make sure you guys are in bussiness toghter with Pratch,right? Just want to get my facts straight.
I didn't see a not sure vote so I haven't voted yet. Did will = would?

I voted the last one, cause I did a mech secondary setup on mine, but I didn't rebuild it.

I can't wait for that Sterling Carb...


Oh, question on the upgraded fuel system- Could you use a GSL-SE fuel pump (should mount to the stock location) and get a fuel pressure regulator?
