Nice 1st gen for sale.....
Hi all,
I am thinking about joining the rx7 community, and buying the following car as a track car to mess around. I drove this car and it is pretty quick and handles great. Transmission, clutch, engine feel super strong. I drove other stock 1st gens and this is 10 times faster than those. The car needs some TLC the body looks decently straight, the car has a clean title and the interior needs a little bit of work too. Please advice on how much do you think this car is worth..... Any comments are appreciated:
"1980 mazda RX-7, new motor with a ton of fresh mods.the car is a first generation mazda with a second generation motor.(fuel injeted 13b) it has lightened rotors, aluminum flywheel LIGHT, 13lbs.and balanced, dual port stainless header from racing beat, new exhaust all the way back, only 500 miles on newly rebuilt transmission,(all synchro's are good)! full rollcage that was very nicely welded and artisticly fabricated, the rear end is from an 87 gsl-se, which means this car has 4 wheel disk brakes, there are also long studs all the way around if you want to race with spacers, there is a new road race pressure plate and clutch, so the pedal is about 75% stiffer than stock, this car is very fast and will spin the tires like theres no tomorrow, overall this car is a very fun fast and dependable ride,I've moved on to another project and honestly just don't have the time"
Thanks,
Harry

Is the car fuel injected now, or is it carb. still? Which year FC motor is in it? (compression difference) It sounds like a pretty good deal depending on asking price, and how solid the car is. Read the write-ups on how to buy an FB in the archives. Im sure rust is fairly minimal, but check for it under the rear stoarage bins, and also check for play in the steering wheel column.

There is a little bit of rust, barely noticable. The car currently has an 87 13B motor and is fuel injected. The swap looks pretty clean and all the electrical work was done by a popular rotary shop. The car runs really strong and starts right up even when it is cold. It even has a 1987 additional Vin # from the state ref. Making the swap legal.
Thanks,

There was no 1987 GSL-SE and I don't think Racing Beat makes or ever made stainless steel headers (if they do, I've never heard of it). If it's got a GSL-SE rear end but a 1980 front suspension, it won't be able to use the same wheels all around. I'd question these things a little more.
