Talking newbi-- just got my first rx7

just wanted to drop a line and introduce myself. *i'm sure i'll have questions about my car*

names keith... live in GA.
work as a graphic artists and know nothing about cars! (hoping to change that)

anyway,
The car is a 1985. prefect body (no rust or dings) but the motor isn't working.... (probally going to have a new one built (i know nothing of motors, except Horse Power... god i love HP! the more the better!!!))

i'll post pics as soon as my car is delivered...

by the way... i got it at a perfect price... $0.00

*friend of mine owns a title pawn business and knew how bad i wanted a rx-7... so he gave it to me ;-)

i look forward to the adventures that lay ahead... and talking about them here.

-keith

p.s.
great information in the stickys!!!
--great forum--

OK...
Just got the RX-7 to the house (understand why it was free :-))

I have lots of work !!!

I believe it has the 12A motor (uncertain)
I do know that it had every option you could put into a rx-7 when purchased. Power windows, moonroof, etc...

One bad thing I noticed... the clutch is all the way on the floor (also uncertain to why???)

My next post I'll include some photo's... till then I'll have to figure out what's up with the clutch...

Thanks for the links!!
-Keith

p.s. I now understand what the "birds nest" is!!! dang, that's going to be tricky.

Good luck on this project. Normally a clucht on the floor means a bad cluctch but you car could run fine with a little shot of ATF and fresh plugs to bring her back to life. I found out that the search button is your best firend

the clutch stuck to the floor also could be a result of a bad slave cylinder, or master cylinder, or just air in the system

that or there are adjusting nuts under the dash, check that too. But i'm with perfect circle, check the system. There should be a bleeder valve on the clutch slave cylinder which is mounted to the tranny, bleed the system through there. if anyone has pics post them to help him understand what i'm talking about. thanks

If you have a GSL-SE then it's a 13b, all others are 12a's. An easy way to tell is open the hood, if you see a big blue circle thing with a cone shape at the end, it's a 12a.

12a's are carburated and 13b's are fuel injected....although many will tell u the search button is your bestfriend it can also be a very stressful and roundabout way to figure out stuff....im an apprentice mechanic and im not good with transmissions yet so i have no idea about the clutch problem....maybe a clutch cable or sumtin...for your engine not running check out the sticky by vipernicus....it's got good info on getting a non running motor running if it's seized due to too much carbon buildup also known as carbon lockwhich makes ur rotors get stuck....the rx7 has a much different motor than ur everyday cars....go to www.howstuffworks.com and read up on rotary engines....if u have a basic knowledge of it's working it really helps...u might not need a rebuild on ur motor so first thing hold the crank pulley(the big pulley which connects to the fan and stuff) and try rotating it....if it doesn't budge no matter how hard you try ur engines seized....then u try getting it free using vipernicus' methods in the sticky on the mainpage if it turns and ur sure it's the engine and not ignition or starter or sumtin stupid like that then maybe ur apex seal is broken whihc means u wont have compression and u need a rebuild....feel free to pm me if u have any questions.
good luck and have fun rotarying!

Also the 12a is stamped on top of the engine so you will be able to tell if it's a 12a or a 13b.

12a = Probably a GSL by the sounds of it being loaded and all

13b = GSL-SE which means you just got an awesome deal, hehe, being 0.00 (free)

I to live in Georgia, where abouts do you live? Maybe we can hook up, my friend is an expert at rotary engines. He really is unbelievable. He's been working on Rotaries since he was around 12 years old and he is now 32. Let me know if I can help you out in any way.

Does your engine look like that? If it does then it's a GSL-SE
