The New Update Thread IDA TURBO

Well, I finally got my package from Japan. It had a couple gauges (now on ebay), HKS BOV and my long awaited cure for the Turbo weber IDA float problem. The only one I have ever seen, polyurethane float and some emulsion tubes idle, air, main jets. Paid about 150.00 for the IDA stuff.
The good news is the Gauges work tested them on the car and other ways. The float looks good, I mean I put it in the carb got fuel in the bowl and it didnt flood. But, the car has sat for so long I went to start it and the starter just went click click click. Damn battery is dead. I get the battery charger and hook it up and wouldnt you know it. It starts to down pour!!!! At this moment and time the battery is receiving 10 amps till tomorrow.

The float had the same markings as the brass one 25.5. I'm assuming thats the weight of the float. I took a chance figuring it was a used item and just put it in. With the emusion tube removed the fuel level came up to about 1~2 mm below the ventury port.

The jets that came with it are:
Main 220
air 160
idle f10/70
emulsion tube F16

Im done for the night, its pouring outside. Hopefully, I will have time to play with it tomorrow. I will keep you guys posted with pictures as I complete projects.

For those that might be interested here are the auctions

wicked mate, cant wait to hear about this puppy firing up and running. Congrats on all the parts you got. id love to do something like your doing with my ida but i just dont have the time or money.

Just out of curiosity, the jet selections you have, were they recommended to you?? im running the same jets as you except i have f11 emulsion for my 12a bridge port. i thought a turbo might need more or something. Or does the f16 emulsion make it richer further up the rev range??

Hmmm, I cant wait to hear this puppy fire up, too.

Those are the jets that came with the float. Figure they were the set up when the float was in use. Too bad, I didnt have any info on the engine. I have a wideband O2 on the car so when it comes time to tune I will see. Think Im going to try the jets that came with the float. Worth a try.

It will be blow though, everything I got for the carb came from yahoo auction Japan. The float and the jets were about $150.00. unfortunately I got them from an auction. Wackyracer said that the floats were out of production. Carb hat came with my turbo kit from Japan. little pics in the sig

F16's sound like they are a good deal for a turbo set up.

Whats the stats on F11? I have a set of those, too

If your not gonna mess with it till tommorow I would suggest lowering the amperage on the charger to about 1-2 amps so you don't do any damage to the battery. Charging at 10 amps really isn't good for yoru battery as it will cause it to boil and lose water/electrolyte.

Oh, and not to mention explosive gases.

Yeah the egt is a usefull gauge. I was going to use it, but the wideband is a better tool for tuning. So, up for sale the gauges went. The reserve for the egt is only $100.00.

It stopped raining and I went out to play. Went out to start her and she flooded. rotten SOB!!! put the fuel pump on a switch and played with the float level. It didn't care where I set it. It was just dribbling a little down the carb throat. I took the top of the carb and put my finger over the needle seat. It didn't matter how much pressure I had on the seat it still leaked a little. That was the problem there, the 3.5 jaycee needle seat wasn't holding back my 4 psi of fuel pressure. I read on there web page it could hold back 9 psi. So, I raised my fuel pressure to 5.5 just for a test. It just leaked faster. go figure

I have another needle seat its a stock style and a 3.0. I have to get a washer for it. Took the carb off the car and brought it in the house. Wife already complained about the gas smell. (oppps for 2.30 a gallon it should smell like colone) I reset the float tab to the specs in the hayne weber manual. Tomorrow, if my daily driver gets out of the dealership for its warrantee repairs. I will go to auto zone with my calipers and find a washer that is the correct thickness .031" to put my needle seat at the right depth.

well it sounds like you have hours of fun ahead of you trying to tune the bugger. as for the f11's ive been told there are pretty much a constant mixture throughout the rev range, i have some f7's too but they lean out up top at about 6-7k rpm. f11's do a NA fine. For boost the f17's sound like a good starting point. and hey... if they came witht he float, theres agood chance they worked o some other guys setup.

just curious? do you have a web page with info on your setup and some pictures, id love to see more on your little project

Looking at my cheat sheet for emulsions would suggest that the F16 will be richer at the low end as well. Looks as if it could be good for boost though.

yeah, mine ran lean with a F11, enough to crack the backplate at 8psi. Motor will be back together this weekend, probably tomorrow and I'll be using F16's.

Quick update for today. I had a friend drive me to auto zone. I walked in with a measuring caliper and requested to see the crush washer behind the counter. Bastard behind the counter told me, what I was looking for was in ilse 3. After he came over to isle 3 and grabbed the wrong size box of crush washers. He pulled the box from behind the counter. To top it all off he had a customer service supervisor badge on! All he had to do was listen to the customer and it would have been quick.

The car idles good that's about it. I'm hitting about 2500~3500 and she is leaning out. I checked my fuel pressure gauge, little cheap POS. My fuel pressure isn't going up enough. Im thinking its a bad signal line. But tomorrow im going to be taking the intake manifold off and getting a hole drilled and tapped for the FPR and the BOV. I will also be looking for an in cabin fuel pressure gauge, one with the isolator. They are about 115.00 new. Dont know when the next update will be, but I will keep you posted.

Plans for the next week or so

Get the intake drilled and tapped.
Install the BOV on the intercooling pipe. (After I do this I will update with pictures..)
Make neater oil injection lines
Get a in cabin fuel pressure regulator. (This should take two weeks)

As promised here are the pictures of the BOV. Still have to take the intake off and get drilled and tapped for another fitting. But, I should take it off tonight or tomorrow. Won a new autometer fuel pressure guage/isolator off ebay for 76.00 and order some fittings from another place. Next week or so should keep the mail man busy Pardon the close up picture of my not so pretty welding.

How much longer till you get your weber? Hey are we in a race to see, who sees boost first: It stopped raining so I went out and took off the intake manifold tonight. Its soooo easy to take off a weber manifold, all the bolts are right there. I'll goto a mashine shop tomorrow and have them drill and tap it. I just bought some jets off a guy on ebay. He has them selling for 2.50 each buy it now, it's a good deal. He's in Italy too, and doesnt kill on shipping takes about a week to get them.

UMMMMM dyno #'s (mouth watering) toobad my butt dyno dont give out nice printed sheets that tell the power output. I wonder if skid marks in my shorts count? just joking. I met a guy local that owns paradise racing here in Maryland, he said he could get me a deal on some dyno time. But thats awhile down the road.

Got some more pictures work is going slow. got all the fittings in. but the place I bought the 4 an hose for the fuel pressure signal line sent me a 3 an. It's ok because still waiting on the isolator and gauge to get here. Here are a couple pictures of the manifold. I think it came out good. The two steel braided are for the oil injection and the two black ones are going to be for the BOV and the FPR.
