new strut cartridges

so I got new cartridges for my rx7 and when I removed the old ones, there was oil in the tubes. A guy told me that that oil is for heat transfer to the outside of the tube...

any one know what oil this is and how much to put in..

thanks

Depends, if they were the oem struts, that oil was for the strut to work, they were rebuildable. If they were replacement inserts, then yes, the oil helps transfer heat out for cooling. When installing new inserts, use 1-2 oz. of oil in each tube.

THANKS THEY ARE AFTERMARKET INSERTS. SO MY NEXT QUESTION IS THAT ON THE FSM THEY SHOW A SEAL OF SOME SORT TO HOLD THE OIL IN. WHEN i USE AN AFTERMARKET INSERT DO i NEED A SEAL OR JUST INSTALL THE NUT ON THE TOP AND TORQUE IT. AND BE DONE WITH IT.

Nope, just put the insert in and fill the gap with either oil or antifreeze...
