We run in a class called Challenge Cars, in Western Canada. It is an RX-7 spec class, but with streetport engines...zoomzoom. Lots of 7's ran in Spec 7 or Pro 7, and had the same restrictions on suspension as us. Not sure now, maybe IT7...?

I will have to look into it.

I will talk to the actual shock guy next week and see what we can do. The easy route was using a strut insert we already make, costs more to make something new, but if there is enough people behind it and they see a potential market for it, we make new stuff all the time.

As always, I will keep everyone up to date on it.

How many guys would you say would have to keep the factory strut tube/spindle assembly?

I flipped through the IT7 rules the other day and actually didn't see anything stating the spindle and tube had to be factory. Everything just said it had to retain the factory mounting points.

The ball is rolling on these.

I did talk to JJ and mentioned about having to keep the factory strut tube and he had the same answer I came up to: rules only stay you have to retain the factory mounting points. We haven't looked at the rules for your class, but SCCA rules only mention the mounting points.

Yeah, not too many of us left up here, so we probably won't be part of this. I guess I'll just keep searching for Tockico BZ 1086, or try the Koni 8641-1072

Sorry man, I tried. Sucks you are limited to the stock strut tube/spindle.

Sorry, no timeline just yet. He is working on some Camaro shocks at the moment but thinking ahead on using the same design for our 7's. If your just interested in the rears, give the shop a call and let him know. I think currently he is waiting on the guy about the front spindles.

Latest update:

Rear shocks are designed, just have to get a valving for them.

Fronts are still in a hold up waiting on spindles. We have a guy that makes his own in house for Koni's and said he was tired of messing with them and could make a spindle to fit our shocks, but we are still waiting. That's the biggest hold up on them.

Its been too long since an update, we have still been waiting on the one guy for the spindle, so currently looking at another alternative. We are sending the spindle we have out to another guy to see what needs to be done to make it accept our insert. This guy already has someone that wants a set so this should help the process out. The manager asked me yesterday if it was okay to send out the spindle since it is actually mine and I mentioned I didn't want him just tossing it.

Sorry again guys its taking this long, but it is not forgotten and is getting worked on.

hoang, did you get my PM?

It will depend on what route we end up going. Currently we have the big bearing there. If we end up just having to modify the strut tube, the bearing size shouldn't matter. If we have someone make a whole new spindle then they will need to know the measurements. The main hold up on these has been the fact we don't make our own spindles, we make shocks and inserts.

If we do end up needing another set. I will definitely get in touch with you.

Have you called and talked to JJ? Valving requires knowing how you want the car. Call and talk to him or email him and I'm sure he can get something cooked up quick.
