new SE - good deal?

i haven't taken delivery yet, but i drove it around yesterday... tell me if you think i got a good deal:

- '84 -SE, 100% stock, 215k mi
- Black exterior (SHINY!) straight body with just a couple small dents and a oddly sealed pass-side taillight
- red interior is in good shape fore of the seats, but the hatch area is dingy and worn
- broken wiper motor (i have a replacement (FREE!) lined up
- tranny shifts super-smooth and quiet
- engine pulls hard right up to redline, supposedly it's original
- needs new battery
- needs at least one new wheel bearing - it moans. other than that it drives super smooth and straight.
- a couple thousand miles on a new set of Toyo Proxes

final price for the car was $800

pics here: http://www.redhavana.net/gallery/vie...albumName=cars

my only plans for this beauty is to fix the small items, swap in a fresher motor, and a full RB exhaust.

pretty good find, i think.

you really think? i think it's in above-average shape for a 20 yr old rx-7. it has some small problems and it needs a good wash+wax, but for an $800 se that runs, i think it's a great project waiting to happen.

yes i did. both the wheel wells, the undercarriage, and behind the bins. the undercarriage is in great shape, the undercoating (didn't these things comes stock with undercoat?) is still intact. just a little surface rust behind the bins that i can go at with some sort of scraping instrument, none in the wheel wells.

I'd go for it. $800 seems like a fair price, and you could just use it until the engine gives out. The paint isn't in great shape, but other that that it looks like a great find. Good luck.

the pictures don't do the paint justice. it'd been sitting for 9 months and it needs washed. badly. it's growing moss on the badges and door trim.

once i pick it up, i'll wash+wax and take some better pics.

that sounds like a great seal. i was offered an 84 SE for 1200 and i am waiting for the reply as to if the guy still has it. if so, i will spend the 1200 for it. now, 800 sounds great! i would jump all over it!
