new se cont.
well i hooked up the car to a big diesel truck to jump start it, let it charge for a long time, the guy that owns the truck owns a used car business and he's never had trouble jumping a car before, it would barely turn over. we are going to tow it tomorrow to see if it will start. Has anyone ever had this problem and found that the starter was bad? it will turn over like 2 times real slow and stop. i've jumped cars before and what we did should have been enough to get it to kick over a few times pretty well. so i think it might be the starter. any ideas?

sounds like your battery is dead as a doornail. check to make sure the fluid is full in the battery. if it is, and it still wouldn't charge, get a new battery. 99.9999% chance that is what is wrong.

I had 2 starters that cranked real slow till they died, even though the battery was good, also tried jumping and same thing.
Still could be your battery though, but it would have to be really dead to cause it to turn this slow. Check also your battery connections and your starter connections as well.

it's possible that the battery is so sulphated and the plates are so disintegrated that the battery is drawing too much power from the jumper battery to even turn the car over.... that coupled with any of the following will make starting almost impossible:
1) Bad terminals on the cables
2) Bad ground
3) Bad positive connection on the starter
4) Bad starter motor
Trying to start a car on a dead battery is really hard on the contacts in the solenoid, etc, and can actually weld pieces of the solenoid, as well as the brushes in the motor to each other...
I'd take the battery somewhere and get it load tested after you charge it up on a slow charge for 12 hours or so...
On a side note, is the battery is badly sulphated (from sitting, or draining it right down to completely dead), the battery will NOT take a fast charge (anything over about 5 amps), so try charging it for at LEAST 12 hours on 3-5 amps....
