New rx7 owner :D

Just bought a 1983 RX7 GSL for 200, drove it home sounding like a semi truck and got made fun of by everyone I know for buying a 'piece of ****' but I will remain strong hahaha, this car well end up eating most anything around where I live and eat curves. (By the way I've been shopping around for one of these for 2 and a half years and tonite being the first nite having it I've spent about 4 hours just looking at it and sitting in it whether it's road worthy or not yet.) The car in the process of being fixed (1995 Eagle Talon ESi) may have to take a backseat to the 7, it's my new baby.. Anyways, decided I'd post and brag about the car that isn't even being driven yet just because I can, looking forward to many repairs to come

Sounds good. If it just needs mufflers and pipes, etc., use high temp stuff: the rotary has a very hot exhaust.

If the motor seems strong then you are in good shape.

The key to keeping a rotary running a long time is to add 2-cycle or MMo to the fuel (8-10oz every tankful) and keep the cooling system working good. Keep an eye on the temp gauge. It's 22 years old so I guarantee that the heater hose under the 'beehive' oil cooler is rotten and ready to let go and dump all your coolant on the road. Replace it. You can do it with a standard 5/8" heater hose, but it's a bear. Even with the formed OEM hose it's difficult. Some guys have found a cheaper Mustang hose that works.

This forum is probably your best source of service help. There's a good archive and even a complete online service manual someplace.

The 83 is a mix between the previous car and the next one. Some things are "83 only", such as the engine wiring harness.

The car needs the normal maintanence a car that old would plus it needs tires, new exhuast piping and muffler, new throttle cable, the interior carpet and hatch panel pieces. With the car though I recieved two extra doors (the ones on it have power windows the ones I got free have crank windows), extra transmission, extra rear windshield, two sets of interior pieces for the doors (brown, black), the front bumper fx, levours, and whale tail spoiler. The car has 124k and runs perfect with many new parts and recently rebuilt texas engine. The body has the normal dings and dents from the years with only a spot about an inch by inch of rust on the far rear passenger quarter panel and surface rust bubbling under the paint above the wheel well (the cars from texas) and the passenger fender has a dent (the guy before more took off the door and put it back on without lining it up, when he opened it it rolled the fender in.) Thats the goods and bads. I'm looking forward to driving this car for a long time to come.
