sorry to add confusion, I'm not the original poster, I guess I shouldn't have asked that on this thread, sorry for that. But by the way my car is a factory LS as seen in my avatar. Thanks for the advice though.

QUOTE=Banzai;11722464]My personal opinion is that a factory performance upgrade will always trump a cosmetic one. The SEs will valued for this in the future. You are comparing an FB to a SA however, two different animals. Like comparing a C1 Corvette to a C2 or C3. You'll have different people liking the different versions for their personal reasons.

Your car is a GS. Leather Sports all came with a browm interior. Brown carpets, brown leather seats, door pannels, leather wrapped steering wheel, leather wrapped shift ****, power mirrors and b-pillar badges. They also came with gold painted waffles. No way to de-code your VIN to determine what model car you have. You need the window sticker.

Your shift **** is not a true leather covered one. Its a rubberized material molded to look stitched. Leather ***** came with an actual clear acrylic crystal shift pattern, not the metal plate like yours. Stock, the cars came with 2 front speakers only. The special models (79 Limiteds and I think the LSs / 10th A/Es) came with 2 additional rear speakers.[/QUOTE]

My answer to your question about the value of an LS to a SE was directed at you. The rest of my last post was directed at Mr. Lucky and his car.

'80 GS with straight AM/FM (no cassette) came with four speakers; two back in the hatch area, two in the kick panels beside the foot wells.

The front speakers were 4" and installed behind a black (or interior-color-)laminated press-wood kick panel; no grilles, just a drilled hole pattern. I'll see if I have some pix floating online I can attach.

Thank you guys for all post and corrections. I feel bad having stupid questions being a brand new owner of RX7 ( previously I have only seen 80's in junk yards, and kinda thought I would be ultra lucky if I ever got one of my own.) Moses X mentioned that the rebuild kit Sorensen is a good brand and work great with the NIKKI 4 barrel. So I will put my opinions on part manufacture aside for moment. Give it a whirle here it gos. (Meet me in build thread for same car if interested). Again thanks everyone for helping me straighten out what I actually got btw sick 80 GS DivinDriver. Very clean

I have a 1980 GS with only front speakers, AM/FM Clarion. I'm the second owner with the original bill of sale,so I know it's a GS.

Gads. Advise? I could bury you, but don't know where you are with it. History. Condition. What works now. What doesn't.

Right off the top, unless you have documentation from the PO that its had recent change of all fluids, I would start there. I'd yank the rad and have it dunked at a Rad shop so you know the cooling system is up to snuff. Big deal for rotaries. Likewise every rubber hose!!

AND-
should say there are a couple of gents here who know waaaay more than me on this fine model year of '7. DD, Banzai? step up Lads....

Stu, I've always been a Gen 3 owner, but I'm curious about your comment of the '80 GS being the best of the bunch. Is there a thread here on the club that goes over Gen 1 years and differences? I'm preferrential to 79-80 for Gen 1s (or 84/85 GSL-SEs), but is there a thread that describes differences/improvements year-by-year? Sorry for this little diversion...... Thx!

I can't speak for all the cars, but I 2nd you. My 80 GS came with the 2 front kick pannel speakers only. Originally purchased by a lady in her early 50's in the territory of California (before the coup re establishing it as Kaliforniastan). My rear quarter insulation still has the plug covering where the rear speaker would have gone. I don't think this lady ever added anything to the car except gas and oil. Still has the orininal AM/FM and pristean Unicorn door handle trim clips.
