New and need info!

Hi, I'm new to the board and don't yet have a RX-7. I'm hoping to get one by the end of summer.

The reason I'm posting this in the 1st gen section is because I am going to get a 1st gen. I like the styling better. Anyway, I just need any info on the cars and engine choices. How fast they are and any other info about how to make them go faster (mmmmm, speed ). I need my car to be able to beat a 1980 Camaro with a 305 and a 1983 Mercury Capri with a modified 302. Any info will help. I'm going to have about $1500 to spend on mods.

For 1500$ powerwise you can buy a RB exhaustsystem and a new carb and intake system(CAI, filter and such)

This will give you around 150HP. 0-60 in around 7-7,5sec
You can also buy a different end gear.

This is for a 12A engine BTW

13B with exhaust should give you around 175-180hp.

Sweet, thats more than I expected. I hope to get the 13B engine but is it possible to get 200hp from a 13B with $1500. I forgot to mention that this is Canadian currency.

I remember reading someware that the transmission on the 12A and 13B engines are not extremely strong, that they will break if you put too much power to them. Will this be to much for the trans to handle?

Hmmm... you're trying to out-drag American Iron? Sorry, but the RX-7 is more of a all-around sports car. Fast going forward, and turning! Sure you can make them fast (turbocharge, 20B transplant), but it takes a lot of work and lots of MONEY! Rotary engines are pretty strong, and they are reliable if you maintain them properly. I think it's just another rotary myth that they "break easily with too much power". Lots of members on our boards have modified motors putting out 200+. Combined with the low weight of the FB (first-gen), you get a pretty fast car! Just my 2 cents of course. Good Luck on your Rex!

i'm not saying the engine is weak, i'm just asking is the TRANSMISSION weak.

I don't know too much yet about porting, but how hard is it to do yourself? I was just looking at the porting templates from racing beat and just got a little curious.

I've been doing more searching for the best parts to give me the most power, and it seems that all the exhaust systems have pre silencers. What are these?
I think they would just be another restriction in the system. Can anyone tell me from experience what the Racing Beat street ported exhaust system is like?

If I get the 13B engine, I think I will go with this and mabey a few other smaller things like a K&N cone air filter. With the exhaust and a few other parts like mabey puting an electric fan in I should get 180-190hp at the flywheel. I'm guessing 160 at the rear wheels.

the presilencers are not really restricting. they are just straight pipe that is packed to muffle the sound. the rb ones are so popular because they last forever.
