New member picked up an 83

I've been registered for awhile but been reading up on info on the 1st gen rx7 since i wanted one forever but never found the right one til now, the guy wanted $2900 but i left paying $1500.

1983 RX7 Limited edition surface to no rust.
12A ported(some kind unknown)
Racing Beat modified Holley carb and Street port manifold kit
Racing Beat street header
2.5" piping w/ cat,resonator and Rx7 oem muffler.
Holley External Fuel pump and FPR w/liquid filled gauge
4 Puck Bronze clutch stock flywheel
Rats nest

12A is newly rebuilt and ported. I have to pump pedal 4-5 times then turn it over and blip gas slightly is this normal? This was the prior owners ritual sometimes it wont start and turn over forever. BTW this isn't my daily driver so its not being driven til problems are fixed but i would love to drive this to maple grove and work. If i get it started today i'll take a vid of idle and rev which it does both fine.

problems:
- The choke is always on currently because RB holley/manifold kit isnt tuned in so its hella rich and will bog when starting off
- The car is hard to start.
- It also smoke in the beginning with a strong smell of gas.
- Supposebly tiny bit of coolant is leaking at the manifold to rotor gasket closest coolant port to the firewall.

TIA Nelson

Very clean car, you got a good price for it too. I think I got ripped off on mine. Make sure your battery is good, although I'm sure the starting problem is more to do with the mods. My cars battery was old and that always gave me problems starting. And rotaries always smoke at startup due to oil seeping into the rotor housings. They always do that, and it's something you can't fix. So just check your oil at every time you fuel up and you'll be fine. Good luck with those other problems.

for the coolant leak, replace the intake gasket and install 20mm freeze plugs in the coolant ports of the engine. As far as running rich, what fuel pressure are you running at? Are the floats set correctly?
