New Member...Gas Mileage question??

Hello there! I just bought a 1982 RX-7. Little-Old Lady owned it.

100% completely stock.

What kind of gas mileage do you all think I should be getting with this car? It's an automatic.

I get between 16-21 with my manuel, and I would say 15-20 with an automatic. Its better than what one of those big suv's get.

Wow, you guys must have a heavy foot . I get 23-24 mpg on the freeway, and that's with my 4.44 ring and pinion (5spd manual tranny).

I have some of the old sales brochures around here ... according to them (if memory serves) the epa estimated freeway milage for an 83 was about 28 mpg ...

The musta coasted downhill for at least a quarter of that.

hehehe...I'm just passing along what they published in their brochures, so take it for what it's worth

I'll dig through my old rotary mags when I get a chance -- I know one of them was dealing w/fuel milage and what people were actually getting milage wise. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it wasn't horrible...

try second gen spark plugs in the car. I got much better gas mileage when I put them in.

20 is average for me. Below around 20 is bad. This is when it gets to be over $20 for 300 miles of driving. (Usual range on most cars and about how much I drive in a couple days.)
