new LEDs available
some of you may remember I offered LED kits at $35 per bulb a while back... they were good product, but pricey.
So I searched and found a new supplier for LED bulbs, 4 for $29.95 (how does Wal-Mart put it? Watch for falling prices?)
Anywho, red brakelight LED kits and amber turn signal kits are now available at http://www.rotorhead.ca
BTW if these product announcements are coming across as spam, let me know and I'll tone 'em down.

I try. And these LEDs seem well made - the company owner seems more concerned about a quality product (it's his family business in Taiwan making them to his specs) - not the low budget ricer crud bling-bling-burnout LEDs I've seen in my local auto supply store.

J/K, I just think that the king can of spam is funny and I always wanted to use it.
I've seen them on ebay and I want to know if they have to be used with a clear lens or can you use them with the red or yellow lenses that come with the car? And do they come in different types connectors?

you can use them with coloured lenses. I can get white ones too, but they're pricier (don't ask me why)
they come in 1156 and 1157 style connectors - 1156 are the on/off style, and 1157 are the kind that have off/on/on brighter settings, like brakelights

Manntis- Great stuff. Why is the amber set sold in one pair of single mode and one pair of dual mode? IE, when do you need the ambers to be brighter? (That is what you mean by "dual mode", correct?)

The ambers in the front bumper are on as running lights, and blink brighter when signalling, hence dual mode
Brake lights are also dual mode - they're on as running lights at night, then brighter when you apply the brake

(they joys of working for an airline 1 free round the world ticket, business class, and 6 months leave to enjoy it, oh, and a company that i inherited that is already worth $1,000,000.)

It's the admin that gets you. I've 2 corporations owned by my LLC, a retail store in a mall, and rotorhead.ca online store, none of which has anything to do with my 'day' job

I swear I spend more time filing payroll, tax, and quarterly corporate reports than writing and filming...

fortunatly my company is currently holding property in Sydney. i only employ a corporate accountant andhe does all the paperwork, fliling annual reports and finances etc, but i hate working for the airline, and want to expand the business into Import/export,
I am already planning to export 2 aircraft to the US, aiming for Oshkosh airshow and Airventure next year and test the market with them. but i want to start small with the imports, like LED bulbs etc and get the niech market with the ricer brigade here.
Ill be in touch.
just one last thing, does anyone have any comparison photos of vehicles fitted with the LED bulbs? (eg, i side LEDs fitted and the other standard bulbs??)
thanks

That's cool. Check this thread out if you've got an REPU:

LEDs sure are coming into the mainstream more and more these days. I just have a personal problem with calling LEDs 'bulbs' because I learned about them like 20 years ago or so and they've always been the opposite of incandescent 'light bulbs' and therefore shouldn't be called bulbs at all. It's kind of like calling a Mazda rotary a 'Wankel' engine or 'rotary piston' engine. There is a real Wankel engine and it was built by NSU. The exhaust is on the top and the carb is below it (it spins backwards like a Honda engine).
Ah well, I'm not a member of a marketing strategy team, so I guess LEDs will continue to be called 'bulbs'. But just in case anyone is interested in some really cool LED equipped flashlight products, check this link out:
http://www.dansdata.com/ledlights.htm
I've got several different LED personal light devices listed on Dan's Data but none for my cars yet. Thanks Manntis for the info!

they're called bulbs due to their bulbous shape, which lightbulbs also have, but the word bulb predates any electrical device by a great deal. It's a plant term
Oh, and rotaries are called Wankels after the man credited with inventing this type of engine, not one specific engine; just as MacPherson struts have gone through several evolutions (including the Chapman derivitive) but are still named after Macpherson.

Wooowww.... Wait a minute here...
First: indeed led are not bulbs, but well, how do you call a collection of LEDS ment to replace a bulb? So I guess that's why everyone uses the (incorrect) term led bulb.
Now for the important stuff: the Mazda rotary is a WANKEL! Look at your engine and it even states "License NSU-Wankel". Ever thought about why that is there??? The real Wankel as you call it wasn't even built by NSU, but by Felix Wankel and a small team. NSU has the patents, and Wankel worked for them, but also had his own firm. Of course first mass production wankel-engine was produced by NSU.
"Rotary-piston engine" comes from the german name (drehkolbenmotor) used for the original DKM. Later the concept was changed into the KKM (kreiskolbenmotor). The KKM was extremely close to the engines Mazda produced. Just like every piston-engine is either a Otto (four-stroke internal combustion) or a Diesel engine. Well, ok, there are two strokes aswell. But I mean: a four stroke is always either Otto or Diesel.
So yes the Mazda Rotary is a Wankel, and even in some sort a rotary piston. The rotor does the same as the piston, but travels a different pattern to do so.
