new here, few gsl-se ?s

Hey, I bought a 84 gsl se a few weeks ago that ran when I test drove it and then died at the end of the seller's driveway after I paid for it. So, I had it towed home and replaced the fuel filter, put a new air filter in, and new plugs. It ran great for about 5 miles, pulled hard to redline, posi worked awesome into third, generally made me happy I bought it. Well, 5 miles later, the fuel filter plugged and the pump went out. When I took it apart, there was crud in the filter, and in the pump so I dropped the tank and had it acid-cleaned, put a new pump and filter on, and it fired right up. I went to drive it and now it won't rev past 4,000 rpms in gear or in neutral. If you floor it in neutral, it'll rev hard to 4,000 and cut out until the rpm's drop down to 500 or so and then it'll catch and rev back up to 4000 and then die out again. The fuel pump got way louder for some reason, so I'm going to get another one tomorrow(lifetime warranty), but is there any other common reason that I just don't know for the motor doing this? The car is rust free, and only has one little dent so I think it's worth fixing. I need a daily driver however, and this is starting to get pretty discouraging. I've had a couple of 2 gen 7's and one 85 gs, but I never had any problems with them except telephone poles so I never really did any work on them except basic maintenance. Any thoughts, advice, or links to find help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree, I would pull the injectors and have them rebuilt at www.rceng.com , only $50. I would blow out the fuel lines, and make sure I had a good pump. May want to take a look at a new regulator and pulsation damper while you are in there. I would replace the damper just to be safe. Not cheap, but sure beats a engine compartment fire.

Hey congrats on the purchase. Bet it felt horrible when it died right after you bought it. Anyway I second what has been said above.
