New Fun Game: Guess the Fluid

So I just finished changing one fluid on my FB. The only hint that you get:

It took me just over 1 hour by myself.

Happy Guessing.

Since blinker fluid was already guessed, I'll take brake fluid.

Since they're is not much, it is likely brake fluid. My next guess is dirty brake fluid from the clutch.
Then gear oil, from either trans or diff. I've seen it that color many times.

^ +1 on brake fluid.. looks to be about the right amount.. and dirty too! 1 hour to drain and refill and bleed is pretty good! I know a lot of people are intimidated by working on clutch/brake hydraulics.. and will only let a shop bleed the systems. But its really straightforward, so did sneezix guess it right?

A MitiVac helps make the job easy.

Never get that much out of the clutch, and I sure hope it wouldn't the an hour to change the winshield wiper fluid, so I'm on the Brakes bandwagon too.

Took me an hour to change my tranny fluid this weekend; 10 mins to drain, 45 mins putzing about with that mickeymouse pump to fill it. 5 mins to get the crick out my neck after.

I need to raise the car higher for that job.

go get about 6 ft of tubing from a hardware store, and run it from the tranny fill hole, up and out of the engine bay. makes the job real easy

i'm too lazy, i just put the gear oil bottle's nipple in the fill hole and squeeze it in there.

It is brake fluid. I boiled it pretty regularly for a summer, so I figured that it was time to swap it out for some fresh DOT4.

This is the way that I do it. I also put a funnel on the end of the tube so I don't have to squeeze the bottle.

U can buy a 5$ plastic pump from autozone and it takes about 5 mins to pump all the gear oil into the tranny. I tried doing it with the nipple on the bottle the 1st time... never again.

Glad to see you're taking care of businees Jim. Do you think you'll be able to make more events this year?

I don't mean to hijack the thread completely, but speaking of brake fluid (and having read quite a bit on here about brakes recently) how often do you guys do a complete brake flush? Every year? few years? I have just been going through some sticking brakes so this seems like a good idea!

it depends. if its just a street car, every other year is fine. if you use it harder maybe once a year.

I generally go by fluid color, both in the reservoir and when I bleed at brake time. If it's not water-clear, it goes.

Planning on it Mark. First event of the year for me is DGRR. This is just the first of many projects over the next month in preparation for DGRR. On the list to do is:

New driveshaft universal joints
oil change
trans fluid change
diff fluid change
coolant change
front Hawk HPS pads
ReSpeed SS clutch soft line
full Energy Suspension Poly bushing kit

The ES kit is going to be a PITA because the bolts that locate the rear control arms are fused to the brass bushings. I'm going to have to drill out the bolts, burn out the old bushings, and then press in the new ones. I did it to half of the bushings (the bushings that are located at the rear axle) when I put in a new rear axle a few years back, but I never got around to doing the others. It's not going to be fun...

Naw, just use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and hack those bolts right off. Drilling will take hours, but cutting them off will take less than a minute.

I don't think I'll be at DGRR at all this year. I might stop by on Friday, but I'm thinking that I might head straight to the Mitty Thursday night. I'll be camping on the infield all weekend.

The guys at DGRR are planning a cruise down very early morning on Sunday to take part of the world record attempt.

I replaced the first bushing over the last two days (ran to ann arbor to visit the girlfriend halfway through), and the first bolt came out without any drama. I'm crossing my fingers for continued success.

I also made my own bushing press. I will be putting up pictures and a write-up soon.

What world record? Most pollution created by the fewest number of cars on a Sunday morning cruise?

-Jim

lol, birds will be dropping from the sky when we start all those rotaries up. At least there shouldn't be any mosquitos to deal with though.

The record attemt is for the most Mazdas on a track at one time.

Now that's funny.

Mitty details can be found here:

I don't know if a helmet is required for the record attempt. Maybe ask in the Mitty thread in the events section.

Herblenny is planning a caravan from DGRR to Atlanta, and I think they are leaving at 0630 in order to make it by noon. Couple hundred miles maybe? Check the thread on this in the DGGR header under the events section. I think they've got like 30 people signed up for the trip, and he got special ticket pricing for them.

Okay, here you go:

Mitty Thread: https://www.rx7club.com//showthread.php?t=934809

Caravan Thread: Umm, well, I guess I saw that thread on some other rotary car club website. Can't think of where that might be though.
