I have done quite a bit of research on areodynamics and cooling.. There is a lot of evidence that hood vents are very functional.. When air go's through a air dam it is then forced through the radiator.. After that the hot air is blown into the engine bay.. The vents give the "trapped" air a place to go... So it makes it easyer for more air to come in..
Kinda like if you put a holley on your 12A you only make so much HP, But if you add a exhaust system you will get better gains..
You can make it so It can get more air in, But you have to make a way so it can get more air out also...
Right??

A true hood vent will allow a laminar air flow from the top of the motor. There are several styles of vents - some are meant to let hot air rise ourt of the hood (simple vents)....some create a low pressure (reverse vents) and suck out hot air at speed. This is good if you have no underpan. And positive pressure vents allow air to flow over the engine and help pull the air in from the front air dam (an underpan is required). Then there are the scoops like the TII which allows fresh air into the motor/intercooler and is not necessarily a function of overall radiator cooling.
The possibilities are complex and overwhelming. hence why you will get hundreds of different of opinions on what to make. The reality is, if someone races, they will just buy a functional air dam from a major manufacture that has done testing. Just look at all the photos here of the true race cars. You will find a very common denominator in their designs- so no need to reinvent the wheel. However; most people here are looking for asthetics and will use "racing technology" to make their car look good (hence the ever so well know theory of "rice"). Each one of us can defend a theory about what hood scoop is better, but it all depends on what your intentions are.
So, there you have it - clear as mud. Your best bet is to understand the concepts in cooling of an air dam (not to mention aerodynamics but most here won't need that, in all seriousness). Then find a popular "look" that people will buy. Then make them - make some dough - and make yourself happy. Or better yet - make what you like and offer to sell copies. Who cares about negative comments from forum members, etc. Most all of us are douche bags anyway Enjoy customizing your ride. As long as you like it - you succeeded. Don't let us directly affect what you chose to do unless you are looking for input. However, my checkbook is awaiting the design of the FB TII hood - I'm just sayin'.......... !

This is by far my favorite first gen rx7, so I'm taking hints from in it with my car.
I couldn't find one anywhere (doesn't even look like this one is MADE for an RX7, probably modified another one to fit)...so I'm building one.

Wouldent the IMSA kit be more areodynamic if the front end sloped downward..??
Kinda how front end of le mans cars do?? I noticed that the front end on the mariah motorsports GTO-1 kit has a nice smooth slope to its front end...
I would love to see some of these air dams in a wind tunnel.. See what kind of a differance it makes if you slope the nose down ..

Hey guys! I just got a new shop. So Im making a new line of fiberglass parts just for the FB RX-7.
I'm just now finishing up the casts for: A original FB air dam, A fiberglass dash and center consel. Many more to come!
Check out the unfinished pics and tell me what you think.

i kinda like it...but it reminds me of a supra in a way or a gt40 nose kinda squished up...and its a little to open on the airdam...i dont like the 80's style boxy look...in fact...i dont like the way the fb looks stock in the front...i wouldnt mind having the Cassette Tape body style on my care..but more rounded in the front...
