If your stock gasket is rusted out, tweaked and crappy looking then yes, replace it.
That would be about a 7 hour drive for dwarf.

You can buy high temp gasket material i bought some instead of spending $ on original gaskets it is very thick and is metallic based and has different temps in different thicknesses about 18in x 12in long for about 11$ at napa.
